Android & iOS - New profile design

We are working on a new profile view that will allow us to add more features to the profile. Opt in to give early feedback here in the forum.

Highlights of the new design:

  • Collapsible/expandable header: Collapse the header to see more of the content of your profile.
  • List view of your finds and hides (this does not include Adventure Lab® Caches)
  • Souvenir art preview: View the last three souvenirs you earned on your profile
  • Souvenir and trackable challenges art preview

To turn on features:
Go to Settings in your Geocaching® app.
Tap Experimental features.
Select the feature you would like to turn on.

HQ will not actively participate in this thread, but will review it for feedback to assess if a feature should be further developed.

Any posts in this thread should relate to features in this release. Comments unrelated to the release may be removed. Please direct unrelated comments to other appropriate threads. Thanks!

Help. I've signed up to see the new profile, logged out as instructed, logged back in and still can't see the experimental feature. I've closed the app, reset my settings, logged out, and back in. My setting preference is not being honored and I cannot see this new experimental feature. What am I doing wrong?

I tried repeatedly and it just will not keep my setting preferences and allow me to see the new profile.

Please check to make sure you have these versions installed to be able to see it:

Android  8.64.1

iOS  8.64.0

You may need to go directly to the app store to force update them.  However, these versions should be freely available as the most up to date build available.

Give that a try!

It just showed up!!

One comment on the new layout: it wasn't intuitive to me that the top bar can be swiped.

I've decided to opt out of this new profile layout. I like the old one better.

I kinda like the new design. Maybe there could be more options or chance to modify what one can see in their own profile: friends latest activity, favourite points to give away, new caches near you.. for example.

I would like it better if I could choose which things to show.

Thanks for that. I was trying to figure out how to access the other challenges.

New profile looks great! One thing noticed though, only Wonders if the World shows up, Reach the Peak or other similar challenges/events no longer show on the profile in the app.

Try swiping left on Wonders of the world

Good, I don't need to see my own header.

  • List view of your finds and hides (this does not include Adventure Lab® Caches)

This is a really nice feature. My main concern is will I remember it's there, but that'll likely take care of itself as the profile view continues to improve and there are more reasons to go there.

The find list itself could be even better if you could see you find date, go directly to your log, search by cache name and GC-code in the find list.

Not really something I personally care about, and these kind of eat away the space freed by the collapsible header.

I think the Milestones description text should tell you how many caches until the next milestone rather than the next milestone level. I feel that if it said something like "Only 20 more for your next milestone. Go for it!" and "Your next find is going to be your 3000th!" that'd feel a lot more exiting than "Reach the next milestone at 3 000 finds."

That's why I posted that it was not intuitive to me just swipe to see the other promotions.

I hate busy apps. They are not web pages. They are supposed to be simple.l and easy to see things. Personally I would not choose to turn on most or all of these new features. I like it the way it is. If saying uses means I have to have them and can’t choose to turn them off then I vote no. If it is a choice to turn them on or off go for it as I’m sure some people might like them.

+1

I know it sounds weird, but my first thought when I saw the new profile experience on the app was that it was screaming at me. I like the more subtle approach in the old version.

I did not realize that this experimental feature would also show me more information on others' profiles. Now when I click on someone who has found my geocache it tells me the number of finds and hides they have. It looks different.

Yeah, not intuitive at all - glad to have been reading through this thread to easily find what others have done ahead of me!

I do like the additional profile information for myself - now if similar info could be made available when you click on someone else's profile... based on their privacy preferences, of course, but I've often wished for more info on a CO's profile when I'm out caching and using the app....

It does look a bit different, but you could always see the number of finds and hides another cacher has. Recent activity would be more useful to me...

Indeed. It looks to me like the new profile on the app has less information than the old version, when viewing someone else's profile.

Correction: it only seems less if you click on a profile that has no favorite points. Previously it showed finds hides and favorite points. Now it shows the number of finds and hides even if hides is zero. But if favorite points is zero it leaves out that title.

Disregarding some of the alignment issues, it's not bad.

(Yes, I have OCD. I don't know why I noticed it but it just looked off. Line up the text, please!)

There should probably also be a period at the end of "You have earned X souvenirs.", as there are periods at the end of "Reach the next milestone at X finds." and "You have found 92 caches this month."

There are also (some) inconsistencies between the "Sort by" dialog boxes in the Finds/Hides page vs. the Souvenirs page (padding, border radius, font size, sort type names.)

The Finds/Hides, Milestones, and Souvenirs pages are also just a hot mess.

After I listened to the HQ Podcast, I had to check out which new features I hadn't seen yet.  I enjoy checking them all out.  In the case of the new profile, I think I like the old one better.  As with anything new, it may just take time to get used to it, but I don't like the scroll of the promotions at the top.  I do like the Finds, Hides, FP section.  The stat section is also okay.  I'm too far away from my next milestone (20K vs, 11.5) so this is just annoying.  Don't need to see my latest souvenirs.  I like the older way better for those too.  I can click on them to see them if I want.

Always nice to see things experimented with.  Just not a big fan of this one.  Thanks!

Every time I switch back and forth I have the same experience. It always works in the end but I have to clear the app a couple of times. It's been frustrating for me but at least I always do get the experimental features.

Hi,

I think the new design is great! Haven't had any problems or limitations so far. I think it takes some getting used to, but it can be published.

Did anyone else get the survey about the experimental features on the app? It was very short!

I got it, and the first question is "are you using the new profile?"  I thought I was, but apparently when the app updated a time or two ago, the setting reverted, and I've been using the old profile without actually realizing the new profile had gone away (probably because it was familiar and I didn't give it a thought!).  I just redid my settings (a few times, as it never seemed to "stick") to use the new profile, so I will do that for a bit before I answer the survey.  What's the point if I am not using the new profile?  Unless they want to know why I prefer the old one, and I haven't got a good answer for that.  I'm not sure which one I like better!!

I love the new view when checking your own profile, I just wish that I would also see more information on other users' profiles. (Location, Their Finds (not only the count), Last Visited, "Send Friend Request" Button, etc.)

I've tried so so many times and I cannot get it to stick. I thought I was already on the experimental profile and somehow it got reverted back. Now no matter how much I try I cannot return to the experimental profile view. I know how to do it it's just not sticking! Grrr.

At the moment, the New profile seems to be "sticking" for me, and I do like all the information summarized on the page.  I also like the listing of caches hidden by another player, if I click on their profile, and I can see those I have found or have yet to find.  Other than that listing, there isn't much info available on another cacher's profile on the app.

Well what a surprise. I gave up and stopped trying to get the new experimental profile. It just wouldn't stick. And then a few days later I realized it was finally on the experimental profile.
