Activity logs are now called "Reviews"

I'm pretty sure the thing I optionally wrote after finishing an AL used to be called an Activity Log, but now in the app and Help Centre it's referred to everywhere as a Review. To me there's a subtle difference, with an Activity Log implying it's simply an account of my experience whereas a Review implies it's meant to be a recommendation for other people like restaurant or holiday destination reviews. I'm not your typical cacher, much preferring caches that take the best part of a day of hiking to a string of quick P&Gs, so what I write probably has little relevance to most that come after me. For someone with a young family (often the case around here) my favourite experiences are probably the antithesis of what they're looking for.

Good points. I saw that word "review" yesterday but my brain didn't click that it was different. I prefer the term activity log than review.

On the second note I don't like the new progress bar. I find it distracting. I can keep track of how many of the five locations I have found already.

Yeah, I noticed that yesterday too. It seemed too chunky for a 5-stage AL, perhaps it's better suited to 10 or 20 stage ones.

Yeah really not a fan either it's hiding a lot of the map or the location image when they could have optimized the already underutilized white space...

 

I don't mind being called review. It's what they are review of the adventure.

This is what I wrote yesterday when I was thinking it was still an Activity Log:

 

 

If I'd been writing a Review, I probably would have said something like "Doing this on foot the whole way is several kilometres and involves a lot of steps, particularly between locations 1-2 and 4-5, the latter being a climb of 100 metres from the beach. If that doesn't sound appealing, I'd recommend driving to each location instead. There are some nice views so bring a camera."

 

The log I wrote probably isn't of much use to anyone else unless they're silly enough to start from the Newcastle Beach light rail station and/or plan to continue on along the Great North Walk through Glenrock and around to Adamstown station, instead it's just an account of the adventure I had.

Well, first of all, I don't think there's anything subtle about the difference. A log is completely different than a review. I've always thought it was a bad idea to call it a review and never really understood why someone thought that was a good idea.

 

But to your point, it's been called a review for a while now. I don't know how long, but it's long enough that I've started to doubt it was ever really called anything else. Since it's always been a log, in my opinion, and always should have been a log, I started to believe that I just never noticed that, against all logic, it wasn't called a log from the beginning. From what you're saying, I was wrong about that, but that makes it even more curious since why would they start calling it a review when everyone was obviously using it as a log?

Prior to yesterday's (or was it tomorrow's?) AL, the last one I did was back in June so my memory's also rather hazy. Going back through old threads here, though, they were always referred to as Activity Logs and I'm pretty sure that's what the link was called on the builder page until fairly recently.

I'm seeing activity log still listed beginning of October 2021. I haven't found documentation yet but I think this  was introduced within the last few weeks.
