Rock Chalk
Thought folks here might be interested in the new episode of our HQ podcast, as we marked the recent one millionth Waymark by having a discussion with Sean Boots and Bryan Roth about the history of Waymarking. 1 2 Quote Link to comment

+Max and 99
How fun to have a Waymarking-themed podcast from HQ! So is Nate no longer working there? I guess that's why he never answered my email. LOL. A few comments: I'm confused about the Geocaching Challenges and the relation to Waymarking. I'm lost. Here's the discussion, in case I misunderstood: One other thought about putting Waymarks on to geocaching is that I think that there was a time when we actually had regrets having not done that, because we believed at the time that if we had done it, it might have driven a lot more activity to the website because obviously people cared so much about finds and everything. And I think that the fact that we didn’t do that actually drove us into the decision of making geocache challenges be a step that we did show on the website, which actually drove a lot of the activity with that side. But then, ironically, that became something that we regretted also because we wanted to get [chuckle] rid of it. But by having it be a fine count it made it so difficult to pull that away because we actually had to take something significant away from our users. So hindsight says the decision that we regretted initially was actually the right decision, most likely, in terms of how it affected the game, but we didn’t know that at the time, but yeah, it’s very funny how it all just kinda comes back. _____ Few people appreciate Scavenger Hunts as much as me, but no one seems to care about what I have to say. There are glitches that won't get fixed. Important glitches! Someone completing a 100/250 hunt should get credit when everything has been visited. The absolutely worst thing about scavenger hunts, and something that is SO easy to fix, is not requiring a photo. That was a very bad idea. It disregards the waymarker that created the waymark to be visited, and the category officers that decided on visit requirements. What a quick way to fill your category grid, when NO proof of visit is required. The first waymark was archived? That's the opposite of what is recommended! I'm surprised that Waymarking themed Geocaching Challenge Caches wasn't discussed. I never did understand why they were taken away. Edited December 11, 2021 by Max and 99 Quote Link to comment
