+GeoElmo6000
Hi all, I was curious about the history of Waymarking. My impression is that originally waymarks were called locationless caches and were countd as mainline geocaching finds, but at at some point they were moved into a separate game run by Groundspeak and were counted as a separate find count. Not sure if old locationless cache finds were moved to waymark finds. Or I could be totally incorrect. :-) Can someone educate me in the history of Waymarking? Thanks! Quote Link to comment

On the homepage of the Waymarking site there's an FAQ section that answers your question. You have to scroll down a little bit to see it. https://www.Waymarking.com/help/faq.aspx Quote Link to comment

Quote Waymarking was born out of our experience with Geocaching and in response to the huge interest created by locationless caches. The Geocaching.com website was never designed to support the unique challenges posed by these particular caches, so a new solution in Waymarking.com was born. I thought this part was interesting. The same issue exists with Adventures and Lab Caches, and I wish geocaching HQ would put the shoehorn away and just pull the game out as a separate game, just like waymarks. Adventures and Lab Caches aren't bad but they definitely don't fit into the existing model. Quote Link to comment
