I guess setting up a webmail account so I can read mailing list mail is possible. But since I'm going to be on the web anyway, might as well just check forums. ------------------ Lawrence Rillera Elk Grove, CA Quote

In fact I have signed into the main geocaching group (gpsstash) and I have the email option turned off so that I don't receive any email from the group. I just check it via web access. I was thinking that this group would solve the problem of having to close and re-start a topic when it gets to many posts. Guest Ron Streeter Posted October 31, 2001 Posted October 31, 2001 Ok folks, here's some news worth looking at. Go to a cache page and go down below the cache description to the spot that says "other caches hidden by this person". This is pretty standard stuff, but NOW it also says "caches FOUND by this person". Soooooo....oooo, now you have the best of both worlds seeing caches a person has HIDDEN and caches the person has FOUND ! Happy caching ! Ron Quote
Guest kimbeattie Posted November 1, 2001 Posted November 1, 2001 WOW! Now this is a feature I've been waiting for for a long, long time! This is cool! Many the time I've wanted to see a list of caches someone else has found! Very cool! Now . . . if I could see a list of people watching a cache . . . Quote
Guest kimbeattie Posted November 1, 2001 Posted November 1, 2001 Interesting to note: How do you get a list of caches found by someone who has not placed any caches? Easy! You just need to edit the URL and replace the username with the username of the person whose list you want to see. I wonder if the Search page will be updated to add a User Name search field now? The caches are in California. I seem to recall local cachers hiding caches while on vacation, and the caches were approved... is this a new geocaching policy? Edited for typo. Guest jeo Posted November 2, 2001 Posted November 2, 2001 I'm sure alot of you have noticed my screw up I've been trying to combine our two cache identities (Jeo and McNabb5 into JeoMc5) without duplicate finds and I'm afraid some of my cut and paste didn't work so well and some finds were lost. So please have patience. Some of the cache's will have to be revisited just to be on the up and up. I just go find that dunce cap now and sit in the corner. DOH! Quote

Guest Ron Streeter Posted November 2, 2001 Posted November 2, 2001 Sounds neat Kim. An out-of-towner like me would need computer access while looking for the different parts, but a real survivor would figure out a way to do this...in fact... Ron Quote

Ron Yeah, this cache wasn't really designed to be done in one fell swoop. While it is possible to do this cache in a single day, it's not all about finding caches. There are some puzzles that need to be solved and how long it takes to solve the puzzles is anyone's guess. I guess I didn't really consider how much more difficult this cache would be for out-of-towners. Not that the puzzles are particularly difficult. At least I don't think they are. I hope they are not. But I've been living with these puzzles for the better part of three months and my perspective can be considered biased. Still, if the cache is looked at as a long term project, working on a challenge as time and circumstance permit, then even nearby out-of-towners will able to participate. Quote

[This message has been edited by GeoRockers (edited 02 November 2001).][/b] I would be interested in knowing the reason for the denial. I planted a cache while on vacation and I asked a local geocacher to babysit it for me. It has proven to be a pretty popular cache. I hope this is not a new policy because I think there are good ways of planting vacation caches. A spot like Hawaii is mostly a vacation spot and the small local community have enjoyed some outside participation. Quote

Guest McIrish Posted November 6, 2001 Posted November 6, 2001 Thank you!!! Truth is, I have a couple more to do to make the 100 mark, but I am so close I can taste it...LOL. Getting ready to plant another one out here in Rocklin too. Thank you The 19th for the info on the vacation cache. Must be a new rule about too far away from home, but it makes sense. I do have someone to watch mine on Maui, but no questions were asked when I did it. Probably a very good rule so caches aren't just placed and abandoned. Quote
