I will be publishing one more cache there which will result in caches at 1/2 mile, 1 mile, 3 miles, 5 miles and 10 miles from the trailhead. This way people can go as far as they want and still be able to find a cache or two. It may take us a while to get out that way, but I'm sure we will. +Brute-Force Posted December 11, 2002 Posted December 11, 2002 Sorry, guess that was a bit vague. Yes, getting a new GPS. The new one costs way too much for me to buy outright at this time of the year. So, I needed to get some bucks off of the old one. Ron Streeter Posted December 12, 2002 Posted December 12, 2002 ....I've been giving my cache pages a face-lift. I added a *reply form* to one of my Kansas caches as a trial for future California virtuals. This is a possible replacement for the usual three-ring binder graphic I have used for virtuals. I got the idea from the Carson Hill cache page. I also updated my profile a bit, though it is still *under construction*. Here is one of the links on the profile page. Milestones It is a chart that shows my cache finds in units of 100 and shows how many days it took to go from one to 100, 101 to 200, etc. The results are pretty predictable considering the growth of this activity. ********* Getting ready for a trip to Kansas at Christmas to visit my mother, and I looked at the Kansas cache count. +JaimeeG Posted December 14, 2002 Posted December 14, 2002 So, what ever happened with the road rally? I think it has passed now, but I thought there were some folks who had made plans to go. We had discussed it, but life got in the way. I found out last night that my daughter has a band concert the night of the Christmas party. She has this wonderful way of springing things on me and then saying "OOPS..I thought I told you!" The concert starts at 7, but she doesn't play until the very end, so I think we may be able to attend the party for at least a little bit. I really want to play the gift exchange game, so hopefully we can be there for that at least! I hope everyone is having a nice weekend and staying dry! No caching for me until it dries up a smidge. Joani and I were out caching today. At one point we were on a muddy narrow levee (final leg of NeXT cache) with 50+ mph winds. It didn't start raining until we were most of the way back to the car. Once the rain started, we did two more and then called it. The last cache was done in 50+ mph winds and driving rain. The rain clothes we bought at REI yesterday really worked great. They weren't even that expensive. Later in the evening the rain let up, and a new cache beckoned to us, so we went out after it and a 3rd attempt at a DNF from this morning (and found it this time, yes!). +Brute-Force Posted December 15, 2002 Posted December 15, 2002 Yes, a new one already! +JaimeeG Posted December 15, 2002 Posted December 15, 2002 When I first started caching in February of this year, the weather was still rainy and gloomy. Pat was trying to cover the paper I was writing on, but I ended up with a smeared sheet of nothing when I got back in the car. +JaimeeG Posted December 15, 2002 Posted December 15, 2002 It's white chocolate with peppermint candy mixed in, and it is sooooooooo yummy. Ron Streeter Posted December 15, 2002 Posted December 15, 2002 ....Yes, it is kind of funny to want to protect the old paint job on a 4x4, but my 10 year old Explorer looks like new and I want to keep it that way! I have picked up some scrub brush scratches that i've taken out, and I've always thought it would be nice to have an old beat-up 4x4 to take to really rough spots, but can't justify it. The stats on 4 wheel drive use put *most* 4x4 owners using it less than a few percent of the time. Makes sense. You drive hundreds of miles sometimes to get to a 4x4 area and then only drive a few miles in those gears. I use to snow ski and 4x4 was useful for that, but on ice you might as well have skates on your car. Glad the old Modesto Picnic cache is getting some action...it's a good little road for short-wheel based 4x4s. Ron I've never been lost. Fearsome confused sometimes, but never lost. Quote
+C&MMorris Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 Ron, Your Explorer is pretty nice. I wouldnt want to scratch it either. I was mainly talking about George's Bronco and My Jeep. I dont think a few scratches will change the look's any on our vehicles. As for statisticks go, You are probably right for the magority. During the winter time I make sure I run in 4x4 at least once a day and in the summer time it's once a week. I do this to keep the front end lubricated and to make sure everything is working properly. George, When you get a chance come over, I have a 200 yard MUD drag stip. And it is very slick. BUT it's a bunch of fun. We can see if that old Bronco of your's can get muddier than my Jeep Mike If it's got wing's, I can fly it!! Quote

Even Dusty (my tractor) could get in too deep within 200 around here... after that rain and all. But there's nothing like 8 wheel drive and a wench [no comments please] when you really get into it. My bronco gets more 4x4 time in the summer than winter. Guess that's because I don't play in the mud any more and there's no work that can be done after the rains. I no longer worry about little scratches [or big dints] as I've long since lost the ''new/clean/perfect 4x4'' battle. My first 4x4 was in rough shape when we bought it so that was no sweat, but this one had a reasonably good start... But each scratch has a story and my truck has a book.
