I noticed you placed one- seems a bit north for "spur-of-the-moment, forget dinner I'm going caching"...but then again maybe not icon_wink.gif

Can't wait to try to find it! Have a great day all.

Goshdarnit!

I can't wait for the weekend! I love the fact that there are all these new caches in the area, but of course this just happens to be a week of all heck at work - so no weekday hunting. icon_frown.gif

I've thought of two great spots off the top of my head, I just need to get the contents together.

I thought about you & your nephews today The 19th (may I ask the meaning of the name BTW?). I was driving through EG thinking of a place when it just hit me! I am not sure if it will work- needs scouting out first. If I do I will post it here ASAP so maybe it can be an after work one (and no contrary to popular opinion I am NOT addicted to this geocaching stuff...well okay maybe a little addiction?LOL)

Can't wait to see what you have in store for us icon_wink.gif

I was first to log the McIrish Brier Rabbit's stash today!

It was just a little too close to work (about six miles) to ignore. The ratings and topo map made it look doable, even in work clothes (everyday is casual day).

I was planning on going tomorrow at lunch because I don't carry my GPS around with me during the week. But as luck would have it, one of my cubicle neighbors brought in her husbands new GPS to show me, so I tested it out at lunch! icon_smile.gif

The cache was stuffed full. I had to do some re-arranging to fit my contribution back in with everything else.

Great cache & a great location. Not every cache has to be an extreme cache! I prefer caches in the 1.5 - 2.5 range. (3's are okay too, but so far I've avoided 4's and above.)

And I just gotta says THANKS! for all the new caches being placed in the Sacramento area (now and in the future!).

It's really great having a cache to go after that doesn't require a long drive to reach.

I'll still hunt for caches in the Bay Area and up Tahoe way, but it's really nice to have some in the Sacto area at last!

Oh yeah, forgot to mention this . . .

Brier Rabbit's cache had a pair of (new) socks in the cache. icon_biggrin.gif What a great idea! There have been times during a cache hunt (or shortly thereafter) when I would have killed for a fresh pair of socks!

Of course I could always pack along extra socks, but that's too logical . . . icon_smile.gif

My Username: The 19th

I am the 19th agent (james bond theme music... ahem ... but seriously) of a group of specialists (more james bond) at a local phone call center (scratching record sound)... hehehe! I'm a Phone Monkey!

Geocaching is a great balance to sitting on my butt all day.

I also use the nickname in some of the games I play on the computer/video game consoles - works well for robots/magicians/knights.

Re: Cache locations

Not that it's a bad thing having caches near the American River and Folsom Lake areas... I'm glad they're there as I would have never known of some of those parks even though I'm a native Sacramentan. (tsk tsk!)

But I've just had one too many "duh" moments when I get home and plan out the next cache to hunt for, only to realize that the it was only a short distance from the one I just found. I just end up frustrated at myself because I have to drive back up there again. hehe.. oh well, at least I'm learning to plan in more detail!

There are a number of good places to stash a cache in the southern areas before you get to Stockton and Ron Streeter's caches. I guess one of things about hiding a cache is to sharing with others a place that they may have never known about - just like the American River and Folsom Lake caches did for me.

I think my first cache will be fairly close to our house... most likely a 1/1.5 rating - very similar to Cache For Kids but in a less paved area (no foxtails - well, last time I was there anyway). I'll let my nephews maintain that one... I still need to scout out the second location I thought of though. I can't wait!

Speaking of geocaching at night, I did something very similar for the Rock Piles cache... We had dinner a little earlier than usual, so we headed off to look for it right after. The race to find the cache while there was still light added another dimension to the adventure.

Walking by a pond with evil looking tree stumps, hearing birds in the distance that sound very much like a bunch of rowdy college guys, and night fast approaching must have been really spooky for my nephew.

Even though we did find it, Night seeking is something I would strongly advise to leave to the more experienced. Indeed it was fun, but as we were walking back to my Jeep, my mind was racing with all the "What ifs". I can't imagine doing Pepper's Blackberry Patch at dusk - That one during the day was enough for me!

Remember people, it's all in the name of fun and the adventure. Don't take unnecessary risks out there.

Since 19th was kind enough to mention my Stockton caches, thought I'd drop a note here.

I originally placed the two in Stockton to see if the Bay Area cachers would make an appearance here. One did...and couldn't find it...but the rest have been people passing through on the way to the bay area, or now you folks from the Sacramento area.

I found Kim's first effort and have all the Sacramento caches mapped out for a couple of searches. Would like to do all the river caches in one day and maybe all of the Folsom area in another day (or two).

I looked for Mav's Mariah but couldn't find it. Got a new clue from her and will try again.

Glad you are all there providing Stockton with another direction to travel to.

Ron

Thanks Ron! An "honor" uh? I can't remember when I laughed so hard! I just wonder how they will explain the CHP shoelaces to the guards... teehee!

I was thinking about it being such a popular area, so I didn't place "valuable" stuff. Can you imagine if I had left a camera~ who knows what those pics might have been like?! I will not get a chance to go back out & restuff it until boo & I are back from Sesame Street end of next week- so be patient with me everyone icon_wink.gif

Can't wait to catch up with all the new caches and new log entries when we get back! Happy hunting all...

Mav...let your fellow cachers stock it as they come to look for it. After all, it is small and if each person only brought 2 small (1" x 2") toys it would be full soon enough.

I have a cache "MT" that started out "MT" and through the kindness of others has grown to a full cache.

Let some cachers to it for you !

So Ron, why did you miss the Mariah cache on your first attempt? Was it well hidden? I've noticed on the couple of Mav caches I found, that a good job was done on the hiding. Just wondering if that was the cause in your case?

In either case I think it's because we have a good set of hiders in our area. icon_wink.gif

On a change of subject, I've been having a rash of these "duh" moments. I just now found out how to erase, edit, and quote messages. icon_redface.gif

Ahhh the wisdom of someone who has BTDT- THANKS icon_smile.gif

I just read that while the contents of HalfLife were still there in the bag- the ammo can wasn't?? Strange! The person who found it also says they corrected the coords-but I have no idea what they are refering to. Until I hear further I archived it. I hoping to go see for myself tonight... What luck I have had this week heehee!

Hey The 19th- thanks for the explanation of your name! I was thinking it might be an important date (moms birthday?) and that's how you remember it LOLOL!! I used mav for all my Ms PacMan & pinball games way back when (boy am I dating myself!lol) and it has just stuck through the years. Does anyone know which movie it came from?? I will tell later!

erations. Can't say more than that without giving it away.

The felons DID put it back where they found it according to the email hint Mav gave me. Still might be a tough find for future hunters, but maybe just "close mindedness" on my part.

Mariah is a "near water" cache and I have always done better in mountainous settings. Wonder how I'll do on all those American River caches?

Now I see Mav's Halflife cache has troubles. The person who logged it (twice!) said something about new coordinates, but didn't give them in the post ! My guess is that they won't be off that much. Newbies sometimes think that a .001 difference in a coordinate makes a difference. With the limitations of our gps's it doesn't matter a particle (imho).

Is it just me? Halflife doesn't show up when I search by my zipcode or when I log in anymore. icon_frown.gif Halflife was the second to closest cache from home for me.

Hey you did figure out how to respond w/ quote lol!

I archived it until I can check it out. The poster said the contents were still there- but I need to see before I am responsible for sending everyone out into the foxtails (especially since it is a pay money to get into place). Hopefully tonight- but if not a week from Friday...

Hi all,

I just thought I'd do a quick introduction of the Trickster and Red Rover team.

We had heard of geocaching a while ago but had forgotten about it until the Bee article.

So far we've located 3 and placed 1 cache. We plan to place another on Saturday. We have ideas for a couple more locations but not sure when we'll get them placed.

I think we're hooked icon_smile.gif

Well, I don't care. I'm going out tonight, work permitting... darn... I left my hiking shoes at home.. ok, after I get home and my shoes - then I'll look for Halflife. I have a printout of it anyway. And no, it won't be your fault if I tread through a bunch of foxtails.

Besides, a week from Friday is too far. icon_biggrin.gif

Funny guy! You can do this one in tennis shoes- I did icon_wink.gif Email me if you get a chance to let me know how it looks. I also think you may not have to pay after 6pm- so you might want to try that!

icon_smile.gif WELLLLL Waitu and I are back ..... it's a five in overall difficulty .... it's multi part with the clue to the main cache in a different place ..... as soon as the logging is done in a week or so the gates get locked again so its a long walk in and out .... plus you have to go up and dance on waitu's dance floor icon_smile.gif its going to be an over night trip too .... if any of you are temped here's what I suggest ..... week day trip .... load the lat/lon's pairs for slick rock and the clue and the camp site into MapSource, see its a lot shorter that way, but then you need a sense of adventure to take off thru the brush like that icon_smile.gif

icon_biggrin.gif Yippie! Someon has already found one of the caches I hid yesterday! The Bee article introduced us to geocaching and I know we are hooked now.

I dropped some friends at the airport yesterday, then took the realllllly long way home to scout for hiding places. That isn't obsessive is it? confused.gif LOL

Yeah, when we went to Dry Creek, there was no one manning the booth, so there must be some time of day where you don't pay.

The thing is, I wasn't wearing tennis shoes at work. I know my Dr. Martens are comfortable and everything, but I'd rather wear something more suitable, just in case I end up taking the wrong route in or something.

Hey fellow cachers ! Logged all four of the river caches today including the new BBQ...Kim you just have to get up a little earlier to beat me out ! (of course you beat me to all the others !)

One thing I forgot to comment on in my find logs was the fact that I accessed these finds through two separate parks, each of which had an entrance fee. I think that is an important thing for the cache hider to include in his/her original notes. Once I showed up at a Napa site and had to scrounge in my car for the $4 to get in ! I had come away with only $2 in cash in my billfold...my fault of course, but I think it's an important thing to note in the original info. Also, some of the parks that charge have gates that close at a certain time...like 6 p.m. If you arrive late you may not be able to get in....that could be a waste of a long drive.

Also if a park doesn't allow dogs I think that is important too. I had one fellow come to Round Valley with his dog and he had to go away without a hike (or a cache). From that point on I started making notes of that kind of thing too.

Just some thoughts from one who has found a few. Thanks again Sacramento. Next time I'm up there I'll probably put one down too.

Had fun finding Kitchen cache (nice theme, that) and BBQ Walnut today. I was first to Kitchen cache (a lunch time run) but Ron beat me to BBQ Walnut. That's okay though, it's not a race. Fourteen caches in the Sacramento area now. That's great! It should be at least 15 by tomorrow . . .

This is exactly what happened when I hit the American River Caches! When I made it to one of the parks, I had to ask one of the people there for change for a $10 as I didn't have any 1's on me.

The next day I had to leave the Jeep at the entrance to the park where Troll's Bane and Pepper's Blackberry Patch caches were as I forgot to bring any change on me.

And again, once more for Halflife. I know it's been archived, but at least now I know the gate there is open from 7am to 6pm and they charge $5 per vehicle at the gate. I was talking to the gatekeeper about geocaching, trying to sneak 30 minutes in the park. Realizing the futility here, I asked him what a good time to get in would be, and he said that it gets busy in the mornings, but tapers off and starts to pick up come noon again. Unlike the gate to the Dry Creek cache in the early morning/late afternoon, this gate was manned.

I did get a shot of the cooling towers and a cool "Air Mail" picture that's hilarious!!!

I have both so I tend to forget about the fee ..... But, all my cache's in the high country are free, except for the topo map which is $6 icon_frown.gif I can remember when it was 50 cents and I thought that was way to much ...... I think I will move troll's bane and put in some new one's I still have a few spots I have not used along the river icon_smile.gifand I have a place in mind up around Georgetown for a cache, not a real hard one, sort of a walk in the sun icon_smile.gif
