Is there a way (or place) to suggest locations where a geocache could be?

While traveling this summer (and a few times before) I am in a place where it seems a geocache should be, but there isn't.  I believe you have to be close to a location to host a cache and some of these are areas are 100's of miles away from home, but would be such a cool spot - is there a forum to suggest cool cache locations?  Like there is not one at the Laura Ingalls Wilder home in Mansfield, MO or at the giant Jackalope statue in Douglas, WY.  I live in VA.  Can I host a virtual not near me?  Didn't know if places could be nominated to host a cache.

Ah, a place to suggest that others to hide a cache. I'd try the appropriate regional forum here, or see if there's a Facebook geocaching group for that area, or even possibly reach out to someone who appears to be an active hider in the area. I've done that once, probably in 2004.  I wouldn't do it now.

Yes, vacation virtuals can be published, but you can't create a virtual cache.  Virtual cache pages are awarded. If you don't have one, you can wait for another round of Virtual Rewards, see if you get one.  The time frame for the current round  has been extended because of Covid.  There may never be another round.  https://www.geocaching.com/blog/2019/05/introducing-virtual-rewards-2-0/

Looking up Laura Ingalls Wilder home in Mansfield, MO I see that it's a museum with an entry fee that exceeds what will generally be published.  A cache there should be   outside the fee entry area, with explicit permission, and the cache page without  any  promoting the museum.

Several caches have existed on Jackalope Square. they tend to be short-lived.  https://coord.info/GCZTKJ

Thank you all so much. I had thought of the regional area idea, so thank you for that. I also just didn't know if it was a frowned upon practice.  I think I spend too much time on the app - I did not think of looking to see how many had been once placed in an area.
