Pocket query within Countries vs States/Provinces

Recommended Posts

I have been running PQs for about 10 years, so I feel very comfortable with them. One filter within the PQ is "Within", where you can select "None Selected", "Countries", and "States / Provinces".

Countries:

Presumably, all countries, except the United States, are listed here. Thus selecting every country in the list would get you every cache within those countries, regardless of the State/Province, based on the other filter criteria. Why isn't the United States an option? Are there other missing countries?

States/Provinces:

Presumably, all states/provinces, worldwide, are listed here. It appears though that if a country does not have "States" or "Provinces", you must use the Countries option. Is that correct?

Scenario, you want all caches, across the world from date X to date Y, or type A or type B. It seems you need one query for everywhere EXCEPT the United States (all countries) and another query for all states, manually selected, within the United States. Is this correct?

Thank you

Pocket queries have a maximum radius of 500 miles/750 km.  I am aware of no way around that.

Either select a "point of origin" which will have a radius limit OR a country/state, which won't.

You can use  control-select to select all countries,  or all states (all 50 U.S. States seem like what's wanted here.)  For any cache type other than web cam, you'd better date range  search to limit results to under 1000.

Search will permit you to select United States.  (Type United into the Search bar, you'll be offer United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States)  Like a PQ, once you've done that, you might want to find ways to limit output to 1000.  The nice thing about Search, is that you can ask for Letterbox Hybrid with D4.5 and T4.5 and get all of them. Then rank on distance, or whatever else you might need.
