Release Notes (Geocaching® iOS app: Experimental features) - June 14, 2021

With today’s release, we have introduced an option for Premium members on iOS devices to try out features that are not yet fully developed. As a Premium member on an iOS device, you will see the option to turn on specific Experimental features in your app settings.

In the future, some of the features may be released to everyone, while other features may be discontinued. We will continue to add to the Experimental features menu over time. For this initial release, here are the features you can turn on and try out:

  • Siri shortcuts
  • Show Favorite points on logs
  • Show friends list
  • Add or remove Favorite points

Note: This release is not available on Android devices but we are working on implementing Experimental features for Android phones as well. Given the nature of Experimental features, the feature set will be different on the two platforms.

Please visit this Premium-only forum section to share your feedback about any of these features.

"Show Favorite points on logs" means that, when viewing a cache's Activity screen in the official iPhone App, an opted-in user of the experimental feature will see the favorite point icon (green circle with a white heart) for the log of any finder who awarded that cache a favorite point.  The heart icon shows up immediately to the right of the smiley icon for that log, right under the finder's name.  See the example below from one of my caches.

Yep. The flag for users who've favourited the cache is something I've hoped to see on the website for listings (since that list of users is visible separately). Good to see it's at least in the official app. Will this become an API feature for 3rd party apps?

It is already in the API... Geooh currently shows a favorite ❤️ on each log that was given a favorite point by the finder.
