+GeoElmo6000
Hi all! I celebrated my 10 year geocaching anniversary this past Friday. I had the day off from work anyway, so a friend and I took our bikes to nearby Weehawken NJ (USA), boarded the Port Imperial Ferry, and sailed over to New York City's 39th St. We found caches along the west side of Manhattan up to around 143rd St. and then biked all the way down to Battery Park, eventually taking the ferry back from there. Of the 17 caches on my list, we only found 8, DNF'd 3, didn't wind up near 4, and two were inaccessible due to construction. It was more about doing something fun and memorable and different than the actual caches we found, though they were great also. What memorable geocaching adventures have you taken for a geocaching milestone or anniversary? 1 Quote Link to comment

One of my favorites was the cache I found for my 1500 milestone. Mrs niraD and I spent about 3.5 hours on a pedal boat (definitely not the most efficient watercraft around) for a multi-cache touring a suburban lagoon. +4heberts
Our most memorable milestone cache has to be for #1000 we visited the famous "View Carre" in New Orleans placed by local favorite cacher, BAMBOOZLE! It was truly an adventure: After taking an elevator up in the high rise building, you were escorted into a service elevator, and into a maintenance room--and there was one of the largest and most well-stocked caches we had ever seen! Then, to top it off, we were escorted to the roof of the building, which included (if you cared to) a hike up on the helipad! The views of the city of new Orleans and the crescent in the Mississippi River were amazing. We had the opportunity to visit this cache several times, as for a time it was the location of an annual event. Sadly, when BAMBOOZLE retired the cache has been archived, but for a while it had received one of the highest total favorite points in the U.S. No one who visited it would forget it. 4heberts at the cache Heading to the roof The crescent in the river at New Orleans New Orleans skyline (including the Superdome) 2 Quote Link to comment
+barefootjeff
In 2016 I flew to Lord Howe Island, 600km east of the Australian mainland, for my 500th find milestone. I arrived on the island with 497 finds under my belt, so did two warm-up caches before devoting a whole day to GC5K9KJ, a five-stage 2.5/4 multi around the northern cliff-top rim of the island and taking in the WW2 Catalina crash site, Malabar Hill, Kim's Lookout, the Old Gulch, North Bay and ultimately the final on Mount Eliza. 3 1 Quote Link to comment

My Cachiversary I revisited my first cache (now archived) and did loads of research about the subject, then went to visit a remote lighthouse and believed site of the mysteriously missing shipwreck 2 Quote Link to comment
+Ringrat
I made a special effort for the final stage of Zanadians Adventure to be my 500th cache. The first and second stages were on top of a mountain and in an abandoned mine. Having completed both of those stages, I planned for 500 to be the 4x4 & hike trip to the final (or in my case, hike & more hike, since I don't have a 4x4) at an alpine lake. The three stages spanned the region, a couple of hours apart (to the trailheads...) each. The multi has only been completed 12 times in the 15 years since it was hidden, and I was the fifth. The final was the most challenging for me; I'd been up the Stage 1 mountain before, and Stage 2 was spooky and a knee-deep wade but not technical. The final was fine until I got to a broken bridge and a rushing stream with the cache on the other side; creativity, care, and crawling were all involved in getting me across without getting TOO wet! The final lake: Path to the final: The water was deeper than expected in the mine: Stage 1 is in the lookout on top: Edited May 13, 2021 by Ringrat 1 Quote Link to comment

Everything you have said is true. Quote Link to comment
+captnemo
One my tenth anniversary I revisited the every first find. It is still there and at the time still had the original Log Book. It was great to read. I also placed a cache to celebrate the occasion and five years latter placed a 2nd cache for the 15th anniversary. 1 Quote Link to comment

Airport security must be a little easier Nah, Qantas (the only airline servicing the island) requires footwear for boarding so an old pair of thongs sufficed for that, but they weren't needed again until the flight home. 1 Quote Link to comment
