Icon over someone's Avatar

It may be obvious to others but I cannot figure out why sometimes there's a blue icon over someone's Avatar in the forum. What does it mean?

You don't provide much description so I can't be sure, but it sounds like you mean the moderator shield that shows up on my avatar?

 

(FYI, this forum is generally meant for bug reports and feature suggestions/discussions, while the "How Do I...?" forum is intended for questions. For that reason, I am moving this thread there.)

There's also a blue hand-shaped icon on some avatars.  When I hover my mouse over it, it says "... joined recently".

Well I didn't know if it was a feature or not since I don't know what it means.

No worries! The forums are actually third-party software, so even we at HQ often don't know what it is doing!

It looks like a stop/warning icon to me.

For Max and 99, and any others who cannot see the hover text, the little icon below my avatar has hover text saying "Holds a Tiny Thimble of Power."

I'm not sure but I believe the blue shield symbol means that that user is a moderator. At least, that is what it says when I hover my mouse over it.
