bitbrain
On the weekend of May 17, any of y'all in the NorthCentral, AR / SouthCentral, MO area (Memphians, too) are more than welcomed to join us for camping & canoeing (and a little caching). I'm not going to post it as an event cache 'cause this started out as a Pressure Relief Expedition for a bunch of us Network/Computer/Engineering geeks at work a few years ago and this is the eighth trip in the series... If you want to join us, we'll be camping at Many Islands Friday & Saturday nights. Canoeing will be on Saturday -- we usually hit the river around 11:00am to give the day-trippers time to make the drive from Memphis. Campsite should be within a stone's throw of N36° 23.520 W91° 31.846. Just look for a cluster of vehicles with those oval GEO stickers. Should be a reddish Saturn and a green S-10 for sure. There are a few caches nearby -- including Bitbrain's Island Stash. Quote Link to comment
Jamie Z
Hey BB... by coincidence, I tried to get that day off of work... but the vacation schedule was full. Man, would I like to make it out there. Oh well. Have fun. Spring River is cold. Jamie Quote Link to comment
bitbrain
We usually make another trip the weekend after Labor Day. That way we miss the two incredible crowded drunkfest weekends. Maybe you can join us on that one... Quote Link to comment
cachecrazies
Ah heck Jamie, You gonna whimp out on an arkansas trip AGAIN? After all bird has gone through to get this trip together!!! No wonder the "West Nile 7" gave you up. lol. Seriously, we will try our best to be there, Mrs. Crazy has a seminar in Hot Springs, Ar. that weekend, and Mr. Crazy has to go hunt for the "elusive ones". We will try to stop in on the way home. We would love to meet the next finders of bitbrains stash and compare notes. Beleive us everyone, it is a cache of a lifetime. (PLEASE NOTE: Make sure your life insurance is paid up) lol. +bitbrain
The forecast is for rain on Friday and Saturday, but we'll be at the river anyway! w00t! Quote Link to comment
bitbrain
Ok. the Memphis Contingent was exhausted by two straight days of relentless rain. The darned tents were even full of water -- I think it was raining horizontally much of the time. We packed up and left town Saturday evening after foolishly kayaking from Dam 3 to Many Islands (yes, it rained. yes, it was cold.). Quote Link to comment
bitbrain
We're gonna try it again... It'll be the weekend of September 13. The coordinates listed below whould still be good. Maybe the Cachecrazies won't be doing their rain dance this time. quote:Originally posted by bitbrain:On the weekend of September 13, any of y'all in the NorthCentral, AR / SouthCentral, MO area (Memphians, too) are more than welcomed to join us for camping & canoeing (and a little caching). +CWL
I need to get my own kayak. Its costing me too much to keep renting. I've been looking at the Sevylor Diveyak Kayak... It can hold upto 600 lbs, you can mount a motor, you can also add a seat and hold two adults, it even has a clear see through dive hatch. It runs $599.99 but it has alot of uses: Rivers, lakes, and I think its even sea worthy. Any one got a couple of bucks to spare... heh heh Been there... Done that... Quote Link to comment
bitbrain
That's a spiffy looking little boat. Quote Link to comment
cachecrazies
Well! See that Bitbrain's still badmouthing us! We're doing the "NON RAIN DANCE" for your weekend! While we don't do the boating or camping thing, we will check out the possibilities of being close by for the weekend. At least that way, maybe we can meet up! AND. . . if it does rain, maybe we can have a motel room to party in! Will post this weekend after we find out for sure. "Geocaching expands your horizons - not your butt!" Quote Link to comment
CWL
It doesn't look like I'm going to be able to make it... My daughters b-day party will be on the canoe day. Hopefully I'll have my own kayak next time yall head up there. Keep me posted! Been there... Done that... Quote Link to comment
bitbrain
Oh no! No Chuckie! But it only takes you five minutes to set up and take down your tent... Any luck getting yourself scheduled for a weekend on the river, Jamie? Quote Link to comment
Jamie Z
That would be this upcoming weekend, eh? I'm being noncommital. I don't yet have employment, so I could make it. I have a canoe, but do I need to bring it? Will someone partner up with me? Jamie Quote Link to comment
cachecrazies
Unfortunately, we won't be able to be there but...we have already done our Non-Rain dance so hope you have beautiful weather and a great time! "Geocaching expands your horizons - not your butt!" Quote Link to comment

The Canoe & Camping trip is NEXT WEEKEND... This weekend we are in Monroe La. The one after that we are back in Nashville for the Titans, Saints game. We will have to catch you next time as I was looking forward to putting a hole in your canoe for your 4X4 "Adventure" . "When in doubt...hit it with a hammer" C²™ Quote Link to comment

bitbrain
Update: It looks like we're still going to the river. I'm not planning to arrive until about 10:00am on Saturday. Just look for the truck with the GEO oval and an orange kayak. Probably gonna be parked near the store if not at the coords posted above. If the weather doesn't look good for Saturday night, I'll probably head back home rather than camp. I had enough cold rain in May. <shudder> Jamie: Greg (used to be a cacher called Sonoma) might be interested in front-seating your canoe if you come up. Any of you other slackers thinking about making the trip? Quote Link to comment

Gibbenator
Man Bit... I wish I would've known about this sooner. I don't kayak but I sure love camping and canoeing and have been down the Spring River many many times. I wish the info had been bumped up in the threads a little sooner as I would've been able to go with a little more notice. Definitely count me in for the Spring trip. Have you been on the Eleven Point River? Just about 30 min. further up in Missouri? There must be a 'cacher nearby.... I smell DEET! Quote Link to comment
Jamie Z
At this point, I'm probably not going to be able to make it. But.. if things change, and I'd sure like to go, I'll just show up. I probably won't be able to bring my canoe in any case. Wish me luck. Jamie Quote Link to comment

cachecrazies
Sorry - guess our non-rain dance didn't work. Although it's been sporadic here in Mtn. Home. If it makes you feel any better, I (Mrs. Crazy) took the grandkids to the fair today - and got rained out! At least we got in 3 hours of goodies before we had to leave. It's starting to look like your float trips are jinxed. "Geocaching expands your horizons - not your butt!" Quote Link to comment
bitbrain
I decided to go 70 miles east to stay out of the rain & do a little caching. Had quite the adventure at CWL010 - Jackson Multi. Doh! Quote Link to comment
