Got a notification someone found my cache.

 

It's been archived for 9 years.

 

They joined today.

 

They've logged over 600 finds today.

 

Thoughts?

Clearly bogus. They logged mostly archived caches placed in 2002 and all around the world.

Santa trial run?

 

Time to delete and report to HQ as it doesn't seem to be an old account being split up.

Obviously a test run for a logging bot, which will be quickly killed after being reported to HQ. Interesting user name, though - I guess "JvonN" is labelled after mathematician and computer pioneer (-> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Von_Neumann_architecture) John von Neumann .

Finding caches and logging caches are independent activities.  While these are clearly bogus, where are auto logging tools that can post found it logs at that rate even if it took weeks to find the caches.   In the "old days" people would find caches, then come home and log what they found that day, rather than immediately log a find with the app as they find the cache.

I am aware of that, and, apart from FTF’s, I have never logged a cache in the field. I was just making a point of how clearly bogus these logs are

Finally, took them a long time.

 

Now the question is if Groundspeak will delete all those bogus log.

Even though it's the weekend, swift action was taken by Geocaching HQ and this account is now locked.  There is no need for any further reports.  Thank you to TeamTJ (and probably others) for their earlier reports.

The tool might not know when a find was made.   Someone might use a handheld GPS to find caches then log them later.  That's how this game was played before mobile phones and an app with an internet connection was used for geocaching.   Some still prefer to log their finds at a later time.

Yep, it shows up on one cache I was following.  I was laughing and don't care!

Although all "finds " were deleted the account still has 125 souvenirs. That bug doesn't seem to get solved.

People still find caches, then come home and log what they found that day, rather than immediately log a find with the app as they find the cache.
