+Atlas Cached Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Those of you using Garmin Oregon 7x0 GPSr will want to update to firmware v520 ASAP (published Aug 25, 2020) - It provides many new features and capabilities related to Geocaching! Child waypoints are now properly associated with parent caches, multi-cache support now functions as intended, and a new Geocache Proximity Alarm has been incorporated so you never have to walk past (and miss) another geocache again! Changes made from version 5.00 to 5.20: Fixed incorrect timestamps when viewing elevation change over time. Fixed potential page flow issue after saving activity. Fixed possible display issue with notifications. Fixed issue with scroll controls overlapping with other menu buttons in the geocache application. Fixed issue where changes to Find menu item order would not persist. Fixed issue with navigating to multi-caches when geocaching. Fixed issue with the north arrow when rotating the map between landscape and portrait mode. Added support for displaying FIT activities on the map. Added support for the additional waypoints part of a geocache to be downloaded via geocaching live. Added geocache proximity alerts. Improved Share Wirelessly functionality. CIQ Security Update 1 Quote
+mdatab Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 Yes, and I really hope that the improvements will finally come to the GPSMAP 66s as well. 1 Quote
+Atlas Cached Posted August 28, 2020 Author Posted August 28, 2020 As these updates are already part of the new Montana 7x0 device software, and the Oregon 7x0 is older than the GPSMAP 66, one could reasonably assume that all (or most) devices released in between will also see similar updates. 1 Quote
+on4bam Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 (edited) The one thing I hoped would work with this update doesn't I loaded a multi with a few additional wp's (as GGZ file from GSAK) and checked if I could navigate to one of these WPs... No WPs found... I'll test further but if this only works with GPX files it's a missed opportunity. Edit: Exported as GPX... again no additional wp's found. This only works for "live" downloads, oh well... Edited August 28, 2020 by on4bam Quote

This feature works with any geocache download from Geocaching.com, either via GCLive or any other method available. Neither Groundspeak nor Garmin have any control over any changes you make to the downloaded data before sending it to the GPSr. Good Grief. 24 minutes ago, HHL said: Garmin's GGZ file format does not contain additional waypoints by design. Nothing wrong with the GSAK export. Blame Garmin engineers instead. More false assumptions and misguided blame.... The feature works perfectly. The real issue here is that GSAK does not currently support this new feature. GPSrChive already explains exactly how the child waypoints must be stored on the device, and it is up to GSAK programmers and GSAK MACRO authors to take advantage of this new feature, which should really be quite simple. Probably could produce the code required in the same amount of time it took to come here and whine..... But whining is easier, no? Quote

I'm not a programmer Whining? Nope, just testing and reporting the results. Quote

+Mr Kaswa Posted August 31, 2020 Posted August 31, 2020 Unless I am absolutely in need of a promised fix, the last thing I will want to do is install new Garmin firmware "ASAP". Quote
