Mineral2 Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Hi everyone. I got a new computer and I'm looking to transfer my entire Basecamp library over to the new machine. I'm not just looking to transfer the data, but also the organization - folders and lists. Is there an easy way to do this? Thanks. Quote
ecanderson Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 If it is at all possible, it will require moving some hidden folders and their contents. Are you good with that? See Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Garmin\BaseCamp and Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Garmin\BaseCamp Then there's the issue of reinstalling your maps on the new box so that BaseCamp has them for access. +Mineral2 Posted August 24, 2020 Author Posted August 24, 2020 Thanks. I found the basecamp data folder and just copied it over. I'll just install maps manually. I have many on the old computer that I don't use, so it's a chance to trim down. Quote
ecanderson Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 I noted you used the word 'folder'. Be sure you get them from both local and roaming. Quote
Mineral2 Posted August 24, 2020 Author Posted August 24, 2020 Everything I needed was located at /[username]/Library/Application Support/Garmin/BaseCamp/Database/[version number]/ Quote
ecanderson Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 Interesting directory structure. What OS and version? Not used to seeing Library under [username] How's the transition going so far? Quote
Mineral2 Posted August 24, 2020 Author Posted August 24, 2020 OS X moving from El Capitan (10.11) to Catalina (10.15). Everything transferred perfectly. Probably could have done the same with iCaching rather than exporting the library as a giant GPX file and importing it on the new machine. But this gave me a chance to start clean with folders, of which I had too many and had to delete them one at a time. Quote
ecanderson Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 Ach. Never mind. For some reason thought you were on Windows 10. Glad it went smoothly for you. There's also a 'Library' folder in Win10, but not content that would have been moved in the process. Gotta say, I'm still enamored of the maps at http://www.gmaptool.eu/en/content/usa-osm-topo-routable both for use on GPS and for BaseCamp / Mapsource. Lots more good detail than the standard OSM street maps (these have terrain info) and updated a good bit more frequently than other topo maps at gpsfiledepot Quote

My #1 Goto Map, installed on all my Garmin GPSr. Quote
ecanderson Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 FWIW, just noticed that the Mountain region was just updated this month. Quote
Atlas Cached Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 All USA regions were just updated a couple weeks ago.... Quote
