Please validate the "Custom access code" field to get a valid and functional URL

Recommended Posts

When creating a new Adventure Lab, there is a field called "Custom access code", which is used to generate the URL of your Adventure Lab Description Web Page.

Example, if your custom access code is "railtown", then the URL linking to your Adventure Lab Description Web Page will be:
https://labs.geocaching.com/goto/railtown

While browsing Adventure Labs on the web, I noticed that some custom access codes were keyed in using accented characters, resulting in non-functional URLs.

Example of an existing non-functional URL:
https://labs.geocaching.com/goto/rivièrebeauport

To avoid any URL problems, an easy way is to use this Slug Generator, which will generate a valid portion of the URL.

Example, for "Rivière Beauport", the Slug Generator will generate "riviere-beauport", eliminating any URL problem.

Suggested improvement to the Adventure Lab Builder

Validate the "Custom access code" field to get a valid and functional URL.

I saw the section for the code, but don't understand how it works. An example given was for example, a corporation creates an AL just for their employees. They give them the code. But I'm really confused about where it's entered. If it generates a URL, how does that get one to the Lab?

The code for my AL is ‘IceColdUK-TWOTW’, giving the url:

https://labs.geocaching.com/goto/IceColdUK-TWOTW

I’ve added that link to the associated Bonus cache:

Thank you for explaining that. I just saw it for the first time last night and didn't understand.

Same thing here where most geocachers add the Adventure Lab URL link in the listing of their bonus cache.

Thanks!
