fraudulent website

I received a questionable message that was supposedly through the Geocaching mail system that contains a link to a user profile and another link to what is a fraudulent website. I sent a screen shot to GC HQ, but thought I would also post a message here. I have very good protection on my desktop, and I confirmed that the site should not be visited.

From the nature of the message it is possible the link would go to a porn site.

The message is from ifidicre1992, an account that was open today (6/25/2020, and has no activity.

We are aware of a user who has been creating accounts to spam our community. We are taking appropriate action. Obviously (!!), please do not follow any links they provide.

I got a similar message from another new account.  I reported the message to HQ and that account is now locked.  Somebody is trying to abuse this website and members.

There is no need to report these accounts. We have found the accounts and taken the appropriate action already. Thanks!

I am getting hammered by messages in the message center right now. It appears others are too because people are replying to them. I turned off the setting to receive email notifications from the message center and logged out of the official app on my phone.

You have not stopped this, am getting multiple messages today.  French, porn.  This has to stop

I third the issue of it not being stopped entirely. It seems someone somehow mass messaged a lot of people at once, putting us all in a group chat of sorts, and since everyone’s confused, they’re unintentionally spamming everyone else.  If it’s any help in fixing it at all, on the app, the user that the messages appear to be from keeps changing, whereas on the mobile site, the messages all appear to be from a single person. Hopefully this helps somehow, and thank you for working to solve it! :)

Not getting any French porn but my phone is constantly receiving messages.  Please make this stop.  Also, how do I edit messages to remove them?

This is a known issue and HQ is reportedly working on it. I assume frantically. Multiple threads already discussing it.

We have been investigating the issue for quite some time. We believe that someone is spamming our community, but sometimes making it appear as if the messages are coming from an active user. We do not believe they were actually sent by that user. There is no need to reply to the messages or to notify HQ about accounts. We will work to resolve this issue.

Are you saying that we can't trust the integrity of the message center? Can anyone send messages as other users?
