Geocaching app keeps crashing

Recommended Posts

Out of the blue, my Geocaching Android app ver. 8.18.2 have started crashing on startup.  I am running in on a Samsung S7 with android 8.0.0.

  • I have tried deleting the GC app data, this makes the app start, but as soon as I log in it crashes again.
  • I have tried reinstalling the app, nothing changes
  • I have tried rebooting the phone, nothing changes
  • I have tried deleting Gooogle Play Services data, nothing changes

Any other suggestions?

My account works flawlessly when I access it via a web browser.

We are experiencing problems with the Android app. Our engineers are working on discovering the problem and will hopefully have a solution soon. Thank you for your patience.

I noticed the same with some other apps using maps. I wonder, if this could be related to some Google maps update, as I do not know that several other apps would use any other map platform.

I'm having maps issues in the Airbnb app as well. (The Google Maps app itself seems to be running normally)

Same issue. I have deleted the app, re-install, reboot the phone, still crash (this happen when interacting with the map, I can go in messages, in list of caches but when opening the map or opening a cache, the app is crashing and after keep crashing without possibility to re-open it again). This started like 20 min ago

It's actually a worldwide problem with many apps that use the Google API. I recommend that you get a cup of coffee (or other beverage of choice) and plan future geocache outings with the website instead.

If the problem is with Google maps then you might try an app that works with offline maps (OSM).

The Geocaching App is still not working.   Has Groundspeak resolved the problem as of 7:30pm Pacific time.

It's not fixable by Groundspeak... It's a Google problem that they are working to resolve.

Since I'm utterly tech challenged, I'm wondering, if it's just a map issue, why can't I even access the app to send messages or view my profile?

I just reinstalled the App at 8:00pm Pacific time and all functions seem to be working normally including the map.

Working again here, but only after clearing the app data and logging in again.

Thanks for the quick update !

The app is working again but I had to remove it and re-install.

Kind regards and take care

AApp is crashing on start up

Try deleting the app data (under the phone's app settings for the GC app) and log in again.  If you can't figure out how to delete the app data, try uninstalling and reinstalling it.
