Rainbow Sidewalks and LGBTQ+ Memorials, Monuments and Plaques

Recommended Posts

Is Waymarking ready to diversify?

This is just an idea.

After seeing a Rainbow Sidewalk and research, realized they are worldwide.

PLEASE, please, please, this in not a platform for moral judgements or LGBTQ+ supportive comments.

This is an open discussion about the merits of this being a new category.

This category is not any different then any other proposal discussed on this forum.

All publicly accessable, permanent objects representing the LGBTQ etc communities: I would definitely join such a group.

I wonder if they are not already included in the Civil Rights Memorials category. If not, then I support the idea.

Civil Rights Memorials

There is at least one Rainbow Crosswalk approved.

Did search for LGBTQ+  (with and without the plus) and only found just the one.

Several of these appeared in South London last year for Pride Month. I am pretty sure they were only temporary and have now gone. (Link)

I did find this article South London

Excerpts: "Though several temporary rainbows popped up around the capital during Pride month (Greenwich, Woolwich, Plumstead and Wimbledon all jazzed up their roads in a similar way) this is the first crossing in the UK to become a permanent fixture. It puts London in good company with Sydney, Paris and Vancouver – all cities with rainbow crossings all year round."

Thank you. I am so very pleased to see all the new members to LGBTQ+ group.

I am pleasantly surprised and appreciate your support. :)

There are a few permanent rainbow pedestrian crossings in France. The first was inaugurated in 2018.

I have submitted at least one in that category and was accepted.

Yes, I found it. Laughed so hard when I saw the title. I missed it, as my Portuguese is a little rusty. :)

Well, after several examples in the Civil Rights Memorials category seem as though this proposal will experience some resistance.

Though I do not think that there are that many approved.

Perhaps the leader of the  Civil Rights Memorials category could offer some assistance and options.

If the leader decides to no longer accept LGBTQ+ locations we can continue onward.

I am still willing to continue...

Okay, this is from the Civil Rights Memorials description:

Sexual Orientation

U.S. Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title IX)
LGBT social movements,
Employment Non-Discrimination Act

Disappointed, however I still think it was a good idea.

This category would highlight the world's diversity.

I am an officer in the Civil Rights Memorials category. We do accept these types of waymarks currently, and I actually have several LGBTQ+ memorials in the category right now. I do not believe LGBTQ+ memorials would merit their own category, but it is an interesting idea.

Several of my waymarks include:
