etrex 30x stuck symbol/waypoint

Recommended Posts

My Etrex 30x recently developed a symbol or waypoint at 0,0 coordinates.  I can't get rid of it.  It is not a geocache or a waypoint.  It goes by 0183EP  02831EP and FN831EP.   None of these show up in any of the folders.  I see it when I off load my data to a mapping program which automatically defaults to show all symbols so my map is the entire world.

Are you trying to delete it individually?  If so, have you tried using the System method for clearing all waypoints?

They may be part of a Custom Poi file. Check the POI folder for files and delete not necessary ones.

The 0,0 coordinates, the prefixes 01,02, FN and the core code 831EP let me assume that they are waypoints from this cache:

One of the things I see happening from time to time is with multi's or puzzles that have the final or intermediate stages 'not hidden' in the cache listing. These will show up with coordinates of 0,0 when downloaded to my Garmin or Basecamp. So when I call up the map view in Basecamp, the view is zoomed out far enough to show my downloaded caches in the Chicago area plus the waypoints at 0,0.

It can sometimes take a while to find the offending 0,0 waypoints and delete them.
