How long does it take for information to update in the system?

We’re new to trackables. My husband dropped a trackable Geocoin at a cache earlier today, and logged that he dropped it in the geocaching app. He also logged that he picked up two other trackables at the same time. Geocaching.com is still showing that he has the coin and that the other two trackables are still in the cache. Did we do something wrong, or do we just need to wait for the system to update?
