Gps OR Iphone?

Recommended Posts

Or Android....

I was a long term committed GPS user but over the last 2 years I use it less and less.

A few of the things that weaned me away from my GPS :

  • The need to plan ahead and download caches to it, whereas with the phone I can download caches anywhere at a moments notice.
  • Another thing to carry.
  • The screen is much smaller (Etrex 30).
  • My caching habits changed a bit. Where I used to plan to go to a place and do a trail of maybe 30 caches so I would download all that area to my GPS, now I'm more inclined to target individual caches depending on their attributes/DT/type and it's easier for me to filter specific caches on the phone.

If I lost my Etrex now I don't think I would replace it.

We haven't had a gps vs phone thread in a while...   :)

Don't need another one.

But, if we did, most current GPSr from Garmin have improved dramatically while phone features have not changed much, if any during the same time period.

In the end, it always comes down to personal preference

Is it worth a GPS or an iPhone instead?

Anyone out there happy with their GPS?

Any Thoughts?

Thanks

Search the forums for the prior discussions for more than you will likely want to read.

One point that piqued my interest - If price isn't a concern, get the phone, and replacement plan for the inevitable accidental drops on rocks, streams, or sidewalks.
