Sark as a new country

Recommended Posts

I see that Sark (one of the Channel Islands) is now classified as a country in its own right. However Alderney, which is larger, is still classified as a region of Guernsey. Anyone know the reason for this?

No idea.  From what I can neither, neither the UN geopolitical ontology nor the ISO-3166 countries list have Sark or Alderney as distinct countries.  The Groundspeak countries list is based upon those authoritative lists,  so I'd be curious as to why Sark in on the GS countries list.

Looks as if Sark was added some time after July, 2018 (the post isn't specific about the time frame for the update).  Link for reference:

Remember Groundspeak think Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland are one country. I think they use George W Bush's Big Book of Maps.

Fixed that for you.  Please see this explanation in the Help Center.

Also, keep your political views to yourself.  I want to read about geocaching issues here. Thanks.

According to Wikipedia, Sark has its own UN Country Code (680). In contrast, Alderny belongs politically to Guernsey.
