+Isonzo Karst Posted March 23, 2019 Share Posted March 23, 2019 (edited) The term "pocket caches" seems to have different meanings in different areas. So it's hard to answer your question. I don't know what it means in the UK at this time. In the US, 12+ years ago, it referred to the practice of logging finds on (sometimes archived) caches, at the cache owner's invitation on meeting the cache owner - typically at events. Cache owner carried a log for that cache in their pocket (or didn't bother with a log, just offered the option to log a find a on GCCODE, a cache of theirs) or sometimes (rarely) carried the cache to the event; a sort of social find. The practice was widespread in the US, more on the east coast then west. It ended for the most part in 2006, cache owners were told that their caches were not published on Geocaching.com to travel - ie, they could be found at the coords where they were published, not carried around. Active caches that were being found "in pocket" were archived, archived cache being used this way were locked. Cache owners who deleted all pocket finds could request unarchive.
