1.My new unit does not show the found geocaches on the map, once I log one as found it disappears from the map.

2. If I load caches in the GGZ file instead of the GPX file, the waypoints file for parking etc is not populated.

Anyone know the answer?

Under "Geocaching Setup", there are filter selections.  By default, the unit is probably set with found caches de-selected.  If selected, the icons show as open treasure chests on the map.  Here are some screen shots that may help:  http://www.gpsrchive.com/Montana/index.htm

Additional waypoints are not supported by GGZ files.

Correct.

Geocaches with child waypoints need to be loaded as GPX files, while others can be loaded as GGZ.

I am not sure if GSAK can filter a group this way, but might be worth looking into.

When exporting caches to a GGZ file, GSAK automatically exports the additional waypoints to a separate GPI file.
