Wrong results in a "Find caches along a route" Query

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have just created a "Find caches along a route" from Birmingham to Cardiff, in UK.

https://www.geocaching.com/my/userrouteedit.aspx?rguid=102bba7b-6ced-4ab0-bfda-f2463b46c68e

The problem is that when I run the pocket query associated with it I get wrong results. An example: The route crosses the town of Chipping Campden where you can find 4 caches. This 4 caches appear in the geocaching general map but not in the map that you get once the pocket query is generated. I attach two screen captures to explain this.

Has anybody got the same problem? Do you know where is the problem?

Thanks a lot.

What corridor value are you using? What type of caches, sizes? Etc, pp.

Please provide your PQ's edit link. No fear: we can't edit your PQ - it just creates an own PQ with your settings.

Hello Hans,

I don't understand your question, sorry!

What do you mean with 'corridor value'?

Thanks.

the route is 5km wide for all caches, or all types, limit  500 caches

The return is for 500 cache which almost certain means that there are more than 500 caches in the query. This means some will simply not be returned.

When I up the query to 1000, there are 1000. This means that there STILL more cache along your route than a query will return.

You need to either narrow the "corridor value", or break the query into a couple of sections. Fiddle with length of drive, and width of area, until your results are LESS than 500 or 1000.

I created a Route-PQ with the given Route-Gpx and can confirm the buggy result. ☹️

Hello,

I understand that you mean the search radius, right?

I have set it to 5 km, as always I have done.

Changing this to a lower number (i.e. 1,5 km.) gives the same result.

Thanks.

A route has no radius. It's a corridor. 🙄

Personally I would recommend using the "GetCachesOnRoute.gsk" macro with GSAK. That way you are definitely on the safe side getting all of your desired caches. Groundspeak's route PQ implementation wasn't very reliable from the very beginning. 😞

Your route is resulting appr. 4425 caches within a 5 km corridor. All your missing caches are part of the GSAK Api download. :-)

GS's Route-PQ; corridor 5 km; show 1000 caches:

Result: 1000 caches

GSAK's GetCachesOnRoute; corridor 5 km, api limit 6000 caches (api Live6) or 16000 caches (api V1)

Result: 4425 caches
