DIY trackables

You have to use an official TB# that you purchase via a Trackable  but you can use that number on whatever you'd like.  I've done it a lot!

Yes!

You have two options.

1. Just buy some Travel Bugs and add them to any object made by yourself... any.

2. You can create a geocoin, submit it to approval and produce it. You will need to buy the tracking codes, $1.50usd for each geocoin, and you can have a dedicated icon for more than 50 geocoins produced ($150usd).

We know a lot of folks who lost trackables, and they used the code from those trackables on items they keep with them now.

 - "Making your own Trackables".  

Hiking sticks , backpacks, dog collars ...only limited by your imagination ... but you need to buy a trackable for that code.

Usually your cheapest option is the basic Travel Bug, unless something else is on sale.

Right now you can buy clearance trackables for $2.50 at Shop Geocaching US and use the code for whatever item you want!
