Editing Previous Logs for a Personal Coin

I thought this would be better suited for this forum because the geocoin forum seemed to be more for trading coins as apposed to questions about what to do with them in regards to certain circumstances, but if this is in the wrong forum sorry about that

Hi, I was wondering what you guys' thoughts are on editing previous logs to dip a "coin" in caches that you visited before you got the coin.  If the coin is a mile tracker, would you just log the coin going forward or would you backtrack?

You may do some pretty funky things with your own coin.  Visit logs to caches won't cause too much confusion for everyone else, it's just your personal coin, and you found the caches.

But I don't log mine into any cache where the coin isn't at least in the general vicinity.  I have been known to log my car into a Micro for a "Visit", although I didn't even bring the car on the 1-mile hike to the cache.  That's about as non-standard as I tend to get. :)

Not only can I not find caches, but I lose practically everything while not finding.  So if I wanted to backtrack and scout for my lost Toothless coin (for example), I'd rather not have made a lot of "Visits" to caches where I didn't take him.  But that still probably doesn't make any difference as it applies to back-logging.

If you’re a GSAK user there’s a very handy macro that allows you to dip trackables in your found caches.  This does NOT create a Write Note (or any other log type) so you won’t upset COs (or others with caches on watchlists) by sending out notifications.

The header for the forums, "Talk about trackable and oh-so-collectible Geocoins" doesn't sound like more about trading to me...

We know of a few families that use a "personal trackable" for their kids, who were too young to log on their own but were present.

They bought them close to when starting, and back-dated the ones done beforehand to it.

When/if the kids want to open their own accounts, they have a record of all hides found.

IIRC, rather than edit previous logs, most simply logged a note for that log date, so the CO was aware they "added" to the cache history.

I see no problem with backtracking, and would/have done it with a trackable that is used to track something specific.

Personally, I would suggest editing previous logs and adding the "Visited" option.  Another method is to log a separate Write Note log on each cache, which then sends the CO of the cache an email saying that CacherABC logged a Write Note on CacheXYZ.  If the trackable visit is just for your personal tracking, then I see no reason to create that separate log and email.

The other benefit that I found with editing previous logs is that I didn't have to think about the date at all.  The date is already pre-populated for the Found It log, so less clicks required or to think about.

FYI - You can change the "Released" date of the trackable, using the "Edit this Trackable" option on the trackable's page.  So if you want to set the date to when you started caching or something else, then you can do that.
