eTrex Web-updater Bricked Legend Hcx

Hi All.

 

Please could anybody offer some help.  I have recently been asked by a fellow cacher to take a look at his eTrex Legend Hcx as it appears to be 'Bricked' after a software update using the Garmin Web-updater.  The unit fails to boot up and freezes on the Garmin logo screen.  I can connect to the PC and perform an update using the updater program and I get confirmation that v3.2 has completed.

I have read the Garmin forums and it appears to be a problem that many people have had after the update.  The dates of the posts on the forums have been from around 2014 and although there has been a couple of attempts which have worked, my attempts have failed.

Garmin offer no support email address and I fear that the unit is now useless.

I just wondered if anybody on the Geocache forums have experienced the same problems and could offer some support.

Maybe start by rolling back to the old version.

 

If that's no good, you should post what you've tried.

eTrex Legend is now all working again.  Had to install v3.0 as v3.1 was still 'bricked'.

I obviously recommend that eTrex Legend Hcx device users NOT to update the firmware which is being suggested my Garmin updater software.  Keep firmware to v3.0 !!

Thank you!   I'm going to print out your warning and tape it to my Legend Hcx.
