If you can't get a cache activated in time, you may instead place a variety of temporary caches. For a Geocaching class, it's nice to have several "caches" close to the class, caches under your direct control. While an actual Geocache requires much effort to make it viable, a temporary cache can be placed without worry of its longevity, it's just placed as an example, and only for the duration of the class.

Students may load a “compass” app or a “GPS app” and hunt temporary caches without first needing to sign up for an account on Geocaching.com. Phones may even have Google Maps or something else that would do, just to try to find a cache. A handheld GPS allows manual coordinate entry. Have a printed handout with coordinates and information.   You might bring a handheld GPS or two available, even phones, with coordinates already typed in.
