Popular Post +MtnGoat50
Seems reasonable to me that "Update Coordinates" should be part of the Admin Tools menu and not hidden in the Log Geocache drop down menu. I've seen a few cases where CO's have been using the "Corrected Coordinates" (hidden from others) feature to update their cache coordinates, believeing everyone can see what they're seeing. This can cause a lot of confusion. 15 3 1 Quote Link to comment
+palmetto
Completely agree with this. Cache owners attempting to change their coords by using the Corrected Coords module is now epidemic. A very high percentage of first time hides (and others) will need to Update Coords after publication, as they get feedback from finders; for those cache owners, finding that function is less obvious now than it has ever been. 4 1 Quote Link to comment
+Viajero Perdido
Do you do design reviews? This is epic. 1 Quote Link to comment
+Lynx Humble
I totally agree I just told another newbie again today that the pencil don't modify the cache coordinate and was about to create a topic when I saw this one. Please Groundspeak do something about this instead of wasting time on stupid map upgrade that nobody likes. 5 1 Quote Link to comment
Popular Post Keystone
Please give the Volunteer Reviewers a nice holiday gift by clarifying the design for "edit coordinates" versus "update coordinates." We continue to see discord in the community, where cache owners insist they've fixed the coords, while seekers complain that they are incorrect. Reviewers continue to assist in clarifying how to fix the misunderstanding through an "Update Coordinates" log. 9 1 Quote Link to comment
+arisoft
The first try to "fix" this problem removed the feature totally from all players. Not good. We know that the problem was here even before the pencil edit tool was invented. New cache owners couldn't find the right tool from an unexpected place. Finding the tool was like solving a hard puzzle. One solution is to add this feature to the pencil icon. When CO is trying to change coordinates, the pencil tool could ask whether they are going to edit public or private coordinates. The default is public to avoid more misunderstandings. When the public edit is selected, it could open the ordinary new log entry form for posting updated coordinates. The process needs only one additional step for verifying the intention if the player owns the cache. Edited December 25, 2018 by arisoft 2 Quote Link to comment

In addition to this, on the "Editing geocache" page, near the coordinates is the following sentence: "You can modify your cache coordinates via a log entry." I'm not sure how to make the link for "a log entry" more prominent, but maybe doing so would help owners figure out how to change the public coordinates for a cache. Quote Link to comment
+palmetto
Whatever takes the least engineering. But it needs to be in the face of the CO. Currently, a cache owner cannot update coords in the field using the Geocaching.com app, so they get to a browser, go to their cache page, and right where they expect to see it, next to the posted coords, there's a handy pencil widget to fix the cache coords! yes, once clicked in parenthesis is (hidden from others). But who is reading the fine print? I like arisoft's suggestion that the tool should inquire about public v private coords, force a choice. Edited December 26, 2018 by palmetto 2 Quote Link to comment
+MtnGoat50
Bump. Nothing has changed and I was just reminded that this is still a big problem. 3 Quote Link to comment
