+bigswifty1
Hi Everyone, apologies if this has been answered before, I did search and came up snake eyes. I am trying to generate GPX files for loading into my Casio Rangeman and have some questions about the GPX file format. Basically I am wanting to generate files with GPS directions. So far I've been doing this by exporting the gc location into google maps, getting directions then using an online utility to convert the google map directions into a GPX file with trkpt information. This works fine, but seems rather kludgy. The GPX files generated by Geocaching.com won't load into the Rangeman, they come up with "Invalid GPX File" error. When I look at the files generated by geocaching.com there are no trkpt or rtept information at all, but all the logs are included (which I don't really understand but I'm just a beginner so hey great). Looking at the raw GPX file in a text editor it seems strangely formed compared to others I've looked at. So, long story short, can anyone tell me how to generate a GPX file from geocaching.com that includes trkpt tags so that I can actually use it for directions? TIA, Mike Quote Link to comment

Short answer: that will not work as GS Gpx files are files containing waypoints (geocaches) only. Quote Link to comment

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but it is a way of getting directions. If you have a smart phone and use the Geocaching app, it will give the driving directions to a selected cache using Google maps. It's come in handy when we are out of town and in an unfamilar neighborhood. Then again, I no longer use a Garmin GPS in my car for driving, I've just used my phone and Google maps to navigate for quite awhile now. Having the geocaching app work with Google maps navigation works well for me. Quote Link to comment
