Attaching a .wav file to a cache...?

I feel dumb.

I need to attach a 3 and a half minute, 6.4MB wav file to a cache page...

I thought i had, but reviewer replied... "the included URL appears to go nowhere. Is it possible for you to include the puzzle in the actual cache listing rather than hosting it on a third party website?"

Please help, in the simplest of ways. I am dumb.

Thanks

Don't feel dumb!  I know of no way to upload a sound file to a cache page, for file security reasons.  You will need to host it elsewhere and link to it from your cache page.

From your reviewer note and cache page, it is not obvious that you were trying to link to a sound file, so that is why your reviewer suggested placing the puzzle on the cache page.  Most puzzles we see rely on images rather than sound files.

I bet the problem was something having to do with the URL of your linked sound file, or in your HTML formatting.

Here's a link to one of my caches (https://coord.info/GC3EKCT) to show you how I did it. I think this still follows the current guidelines.

But because the reviewer said the URL didn't go anywhere, I suspect you did the link right in the cache page, but you didn't get the link name right or that link doesn't work for other people, only for yourself.

My guess is that you linked to a local file on your PC. That would look fine to you, but for anyone else to access the file, it needs to be hosted on a generally available server somewhere in the web. Your link should start with "http:" or "https:". If it says "file:", it's just local access only useful for you on that computer.

geocaching.com only hosts pictures. You'll have to find some other server to hold a .wav file.

Before you go out and pay someone to host your .wav file, think about putting it someplace that will host it for free.  Google Drive may be an option, as dprovan did for his cache linked above.  If you can you pair it with a photo and turn it into a video, put it on Youtube.

You'll need to provide some disclaimer language along with the link, since it will be taking people to another website, but your reviewer should be able to provide the appropriate disclaimer language.
