Geocaching on Apple carplay

Carplay is only possible if the coding is corrected.

Even if they fix the code to be compatible, there's still a much bigger hurdle to cross: Apple's approval for it to be a CarPlay app. Not every app can be used with CarPlay, often for safety reasons. For example, it wouldn't make any sense for game apps to be used with CarPlay, because that's clearly unsafe. Even the small number of available CarPlay apps are stripped down such that they don't encourage unsafe driving (e.g. the built-in Messages app will only read out text messages audibly and won't display the text, because that could lead to drivers reading the text instead of watching the road). If the Geocaching app were to be used with CarPlay, how would you envision it would work? It couldn't show a map of all the caches, because that would lead to drivers opening up caches and reading things. The app doesn't have any routing functionality, so that's out too. What's left? It could show you a straight-line path to the cache, but that isn't useful or safe when driving, because the driver would constantly have to look at the map to determine how to get there.

If you look at the list of third-party apps that are available for CarPlay, you'll see that they're pretty much all either music, radio, or audiobook apps. Some map apps will soon be available, but those are only suitable because they can do routing with audible directions. Geocaching just doesn't fit into the same model of being audio-oriented.

Yes, a carplay screen in the geocaching app would be very very usefull. It must not give so much detail, but can show chaches nerby your route.

On my Bluetooth connected Garmin Drivesmart GPS, I get notices about Geocaching App Notifications (not usually with details).  If Carplay can do that, all that needs to be done is have The App send notifications of nearby caches.  But if it's a cache-rich area, that could become a distraction from driving.
