Old time geocacher getting back in

I did a bit of geocaching around 2000 thru 2002.  Enjoyed it.  But life got in the way, and I quit doing it.  Now, 15 years later, I am starting up again.  WOW oh WOW has geocaching changed!  From the website, the gps improvements, the geocaching community!  I am amazed.  It has been made MUCH MUCH easier.  Of course I live in a remote area, and cannot figure out how to connect with other geocachers who live near me.  Any suggestions?

Currently I am living in the middle of the Amazon forest, but I keep on having a monthly Event... because Events are great ways to meet other geocachers, sometimes by pure chance. :)

Curious why you didn't keep your past account (with included finds).

I agree with RuideAlmeida, events are a good way to meet cachers local to you.  Facebook groups seem to be popular too.

There is an active group called WI Geocaching, that has a forum with a "new member" and "looking for someone to cache with" sections that might be some help.

Good luck, and have fun.   :)

I could not locate my past account.  I tried.

There are NO events showing without driving 5 hours.  I was hoping to find LOCAL people to geocache with.  I am part of the WI geocache group.  I live 5 miles from the Michigan border.  Almost all the activity in Wisconsin is in the southern half of the state!

Living in the middle of the Amazon forest kinda puts "living in a remote area" into perspective.   I once spent a week in a town where there was only 1 cache within 100 miles.

I know someone pretty well that lives in Iquitos (I met him in Ethiopia) and thought I might get the opportunity to visit a few years ago but he never followed through.

When I arrived Manaus, 6 years ago, the only cache in the Amazonas state was also in a city (kinda) 130km north.

Now we have (mostly I have) 170 and 102 Active.

So if you return to Iquitos and are willing to descend the Amazon river I will escort you on a tour around the city caches. :)

Whoa!  You are out there a bit huh?  Had to Google that town to figure that out. Regarding events, I would say that there might be more events when the warmer weather returns.  At least that has been my observation in other areas.  You could come down for Geowoodstock in Cincinnati for North America's first Giga Event!
