foxtrot_xray Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 Hey guys - Was actually asked by a civilian (non-benchmark hunter) if I knew if Germany put any marks down pre-WW2. I told him.. I did not know, but I would find out. So, while I recall there were stations put out across Britain, I don't ever recall anyone asking about other countries before. Anyone happen to know? -Mike Quote
Bill93 Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 (edited) A quick search found some relevant info, although I'm not sure it answers the "when" question. Old thread: https://forums.geocaching.com/GC/index.php?/topic/325390-benchmark-in-germany/ These have pictures with German labels. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Trig_points_and_benchmarks https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Wienblickwiese_Grenzstein Edited January 30, 2018 by Bill93 More info Quote
ArtMan Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 I'm pretty confident you'll find benchmarks in at least a few dozen more-developed countries. I made a point, when I was in France a few years ago, of taking time to recover a couple. The datasheets, if I recall correctly, usually included photos and diagrams, so actually finding the marks was generally painless. (Navigating the website where the datasheets could be downloaded, on the other hand, was considerably more challenging....) -ArtMan- Quote
