Changing a TB's type & icon

Hi all,

This past year I was a recipient of one of the Mary Hyde virtual trackables.  I've recently come up with a decent idea for what to do with it, but was wondering if I can change the type of the trackable from "Mary Hyde's Treasure" to another type, as well as changing the icon.  I heard you can do that for trackable tattoos, which is not what I'm doing, but can you change it for other types as well?  Since it's purely a virtual trackable, I thought it might be something that could change.

Thanks in advance!

Do you have a design of your own for the icon?

You can change the title that's shown on the trackable's page.  But you can't directly change the official type of the trackable. Yours will still show up as "Mary Hyde's Treasure" in some Inventory lists unchanged.  You can't change the icon, either.

Groundspeak can change them, and as mentioned, they make special exceptions in very particular situations.  So you must contact them and explain the idea.

I figured out what to do with my Mary Hyde trackable

Cool idea!  I found three letters.  But I wasn't particularly observant since I was kinda expecting a giant TB Dogtag to pop up at the end with the whole code. :anicute:

That video is all set for a great puzzle cache (if the Reviewer agrees).  Have the link on a new Puzzle cache to a video like that with a tracking number to hunt, set up the coin's page so visitors at most can add a Note*, and have its page set up with coords or more clues to the puzzle cache.

*Just an idea. If you feel the need to wade into the tall grass on "why not make a virtual TB", see the many multi-page Forum Threads about that.  Or, as with most of those threads, start one yourself after a buhzillion logs occur.

I was looking through some of my old posts and realized I never replied to your reply from 6 months ago.  :)

First, I'm glad you like the idea.  What better to do with a virtual trackable than "attach" it to a virtual item!

Related to your suggestion, I also made a similar video puzzle in which a Minecraft character gets a multicache from Santa.  The clues in the video point to real world coordinate values and you can find the real cache final (GC7FQ0M).

Can you point me to the threads about the "why not make a virtual TB"?  The virtual TB I shared in the post above has been pretty well received, and it's funny that it'll get no discoveries for a while, then suddenly a bunch of discoveries from a certain part of the world, as one geocacher find the TB and shared it among their local friends.  It's fun to see that work out over time.

If you love to see your TB logged from random lists, especially if you've already published the tracking numbers, you probably don't need to know why the secret tracking number is to remain secret.  Because the reason is, if anybody logs it just by seeing a published number, you can't "track" it anymore.   A secondary reason is, it's logged from random lists.  If you don't know why not do that, you will.

There are threads pinned at the top of the Travel Bug forum, that say not to publish the secret tracking number, and also they say why not.  Once you've published the tracking numbers, maybe it will work fine for a while, or maybe you'll be back in the Forums at some point as others have, to tell people from experience why not publish the secret tracking number, and future readers also will publish the numbers anyway. Cool. B)

But here are some threads to get started.  At the Home section of the Forum, the top section, do a search for something like VIRTUAL TRACKING NUMBER.  I picked some good ones:

In the Help Center on trackables, it says, "Virtual trackables with virtual logs are not encouraged.   It is up to the trackable owner to state if they allow this".

 - You apparently allow this.  :)
