Does GSAK work on Chromebooks?

Recommended Posts

Does GSAK work on Chromebooks?  I need to replace my laptop and am looking at inexpensive options which will allow me to use GSAK .  Any suggestions welcome.  Thanks,

edexter

I moved this thread from the Geocaching Topics forum.  I also encourage the OP to check the GSAK forums, which are filled with helpful, targeted advice for that API partner application.

I'm pretty sure the answer is no.  GSAK has always been a Windows program, and I doubt Chromebooks have the ability to run Windows apps.  (Or am I wrong?)

Having moved from a Garmin to a full-featured Android caching app, I've learned to live without GSAK.

You are not wrong. Chromebooks run a Linux-based OS, and are very limited in terms of what extra software they can run.

That I knew, but I thought there might've been a solution with virtual machinery.  A quick bit of googling around (I was curious) told me that, yes it seems to be possible, but the geek factor goes up to 11.  It's not an out-of-the-box solution by any means.

Short answer: no.

Thanks guys, that was helpful.  I'm going with a Windows based replacement for my laptop.
