Communicator plugin problems.

Hi Folks, I am having trouble downloading Garmin communicator plugin for my newish computer. Have tried putting it on to Internet Explorer, Google, G Chrome, Firefox and even the dreaded Edge. It just doesn't take. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Or should I trade in my old Dakota 20 for a different make?

This plugin has some security issues, so none of the new browsers will support it... you should be able to install under IE.

Since you are Premium Member there are other options to download the caches. Pocket Queries, List, etc.

I'm using Firefox 52.5 ESR, which equals the 57 version, and a Garmin Communicator Plugin 4.1.0.1-signed.
This combination still works and is NOT outdated nor unsecure.

I have been using IE for downloading my garmin etrex10.  Yesterday it would not let me download anything as it says that IE will not download maps...I tried numerous times on the way they said to get around it but to no avail.  Wondering if IE is now off the grid to download....Not sure how to make and download a Pocket Queries list.  Help !!

You apparently posted in the wrong thread. The communicator plugin was used to send a single cache to a Garmin unit. Uploading PQs is a diffrent approach loading caches.

Are you sure that it isn't unsecure? Wouldn't the plugin still be using the vulnerable NPAPI technology?

Perhaps, but that doesn't make a plugin necessarily vulnerable.  NPAPI has been considered a security risk because it grants access privileges that *could* be used to do something nefarious.  If the plugin isn't doing something nefarious than it isn't taking advantage of a potential security whole and wouldn't be a security risk.   As a software developer and formerly a systems administrator I've had "root" access to pretty much every server I've worked on for the past 30 years.  Even though I have the access rights to read or write any file on the system, unless I abuse those privileges having those access rights is not a security risk.

All good points. In that case, I think I'd reword things as follows:

Using the ESR version of Firefox will allow you to use the Garmin Communicator plugin, which itself would be safe, but this would also leave your browser in a state where a malicious plugin could potentially take advantage of the NPAPI vulnerabilities that are still present in that version of Firefox.
