Augmented Reality in Waymarking

If there is one, and only one, thing for certain, it is that humanoids are pretty poor at predicting future future trends and future technologies.

A classic example is the proposal made around the beginning of the 20th century that the (I assume U.S.) patent office be closed, because "Everything of value has already been invented.".

Look at movies from the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s, etc.

On the whole, technology, as foreseen from those viewpoints, vastly surpassed what was envisioned then.

Quite simply put, people cannot adequately envision technology which is substantially outside their actual personal experience.

In the 20th century, future televisions still had substantial depth - they couldn't see the advent of LCD and LED screens.

In 1920s movies of the future, airplanes remained biplanes - few could envision an airplane with less than two wings.

Until it happened, apparently only Steve Jobs could envision the Smartphone.

In futuristic movies of the Star Trek era, while humans could interact with computers verbally, visual information was conveyed via a plethora of flashing lights, not digital displays.

What will we see 20, 50 or 100 years from now? I haven't the slightest notion, and neither do you.
