Climbing gear

Hi.

I'm new in this forum, but I hope someone can answer my questions.

I want to try climbing trees for T5 caches. Of course I will never be alone, but with a partner at all times :-)

1. What kind of equipment would you recommend?

2. Do you know of any instruction videos online?

3. Do you have any other hints/tips about tree climbing and caching?

Thank you for answering my questions. I am making a comeback as a geocacher after some year's break, and I have a new profile :-) (don't ask why) :-)

Your "new profile" can carry over caches you've found...

We have one, and have been to a few T5 tree caches.  You might be able to go as simple as a ladder, or progress into rope access gear.

I learned tech. rope climbing in the service (and taught the other 2/3rds).  Our military's a lot more advanced now with rescue techniques.

I sure wouldn't rely on a youtube vid when your can's on the line.  Many climbing gyms have courses on vertical climbs.  There's a few businesses that teach recreational tree climbing as well, a simple google search may find one close to you.   :)

Over here in the UK you often find that tree climbers hook up to go climbing together,  so I would suggest looking at some of the tree climb caches in your area and see who goes out together and ask them if you could come along to watch and maybe have a go. That's what I did, and I then bought my kit based on what I'd seen others using.
