+Team Microdot
For some time now photographs as logging tasks on Earthcaches cannot be a requirement - only an optional request, (although there are still lots out there which make it a logging requirement). The new Virtual Reward caches can, I think, require a photograph as a logging task but cannot require faces to be shown. Can't help but wonder why different rules for different types of virtual cache, what all the fuss is about and why not just one simple rule spanning virtual cache types - for the sake of confusion avoidance if nothing else. Any ideas? Quote Link to comment
+JL_HSTRE
Earthcache guidelines seem to have evolved over the years. Many early ECs were just simple, quick Virtuals at a location related to Earth Science. There has been a growing emphasis on the questions and geological aspect. The emphasis is on learning something at the location. A regular Virtual does not have this emphasis. There may have also been too much quibbling by some COs about the photo requirement. "You submitted correct answers to all 5 questions, but I'm deleting your Found log because your photo does meet the requirement I set." Edited August 29, 2017 by Joshism 1 Quote Link to comment

Any ideas? Earthcaches are about education. Because of that the Geological Society of America finally changed their rules to not allow photographs, and not grandfather older ones. People were focusing on the photographic evidence and not relying on if somebody actually answered the questions on the cache page. Plus the logging requirements are set by the Geological Society of America and not by Groundspeak. There is discussion with Groundspeak, however the GSA makes the rules based on what is best for their educational program that they are trying to promote. Though they look similar it is really an apples-to-oranges kind of comparison. Edited August 29, 2017 by BlueRajah 3 Quote Link to comment
+dprovan
The problems inherent to virtuals are the same as the problems with photo ALRs. Since GS is not worrying about the permissive virtual rules for these 4000 virtuals by these 4000 specially identified COs, then there's no logical reason for them to single out the one set of problems created by photo ALRs with a special prohibition. 1 Quote Link to comment
