App for Dummies?

Hi all.

I'm new though in the past I found caches without any gps/app etc.  Now I finally got an iphone, downloaded the app, paid for premium and I am totally lost.  I know aprox. where some caches are in my area but the app is taking me off into the woods and into not so kosher areas.  Are they really hidden that well, under brush piles etc. or am I just not understanding how to use this thing?  The hints are of little use for the ones I am looking for.  I've not found three so far and it is discouraging.  Any help?

Also is there an app for an ipad?  My App store doesn't list one.  I have one on my iphone so don't know why there wouldn't be one for the ipad.

Thanks,

Chris

The Official Geocaching App is the same on iPhone or iPad.  But with the iPad, you must switch to "iPhone Apps" to see those.  While you're there, do a search for "Geocaching", and you see several Apps.  Most are free to try.

Check out the "Getting Started" section of these Forums for more info about the finer points of hunting caches, such as this.

May be some helpful info in  Geocaching 101, and reading/vids in the  Help Center ,  the basics.     :)

 - Assuming "not found three" means you're striking out, they may help.

You say that you've previously found caches without any gps/app.  How were those caches hidden?  Caches are usually not easy to spot, so you often do have to look under logs and/or leaves and/or rocks and/or sticks and/or man-made objects.

The references that kunarion and cerberus1 provided should be quite helpful.  Using the app, you may want to look at the map using 'Satellite View' to see the area around the cache icons. The app will point in the direction of the cache, but that doesn't mean that using a straight line approach is appropriate.
