curious explorer
I'm new to geocaching. Just got a handheld GPS, still figuring it out. Would really like to find a buddy, more experienced than me to learn from. There are TONS of caches near me, been trying to find with my GPS. Guess I'm just not sure how to read it to know where to look. I've added several caches as waypoints, and can follow up to a point. It's the nitty gritty of actually finding the place to look that corresponds to the coordinates. I'm sure i'll pick it up with time, but would be so much better with a buddy! Quote Link to comment
+cerberus1
Follow the arrow, then put it away and start looking as you get within 30' or so. May be a good idea to get help from someone actually from your area (this is an international forums). I'd start with emails to members you see on cache pages, asking if there's a local facebook group or similar, and/or attend an Event, where you should get help easily. Good luck, have fun. +briansnat
There are a few groups who cover your area. Try the Mid-Hudson valley Geocachers and the New York Capital Region Geocachers. They are both very welcoming groups and many members enjoy showing novices the ropes. Quote Link to comment
