CacheBandicoot2
----- Firstly apologises if there is already a post asking this question - I tried searching! ------ We are the owner of a cache local to us - we have just had to disable the cache due to muggle vandalism. It appears this has become a hangout location! We have recovered the cache but wanted to know how to go about moving the cache to a new location. Is this possible? Thanks Quote Link to comment
+coman123
You can move your cache up to 161 meters or 528 feet and update the coordinates on your own, anything over that would need the assistance of the reviewer to update the coordinates (and most likely it will be suggested you archive the old cache and create a new one). Simply go to your cache and click on LOG GEOCACHE, the bottom option of Update coordinates is the one you want. Keep in mind the proximity rule will still apply to the new location. Also remember to disable your cache, then move it, then update the coordinates Happy Caching Quote Link to comment
+TeamRabbitRun
Building on what coman123 said, if you're going to move it MORE THAN a tenth of a mile or 161 meters, then fundamentally it's a different hide, a different experience, so just archive your original listing and fire up a new one. +hzoi
You can move your cache up to 161 meters or 528 feet and update the coordinates on your own, anything over that would need the assistance of the reviewer to update the coordinates (and most likely it will be suggested you archive the old cache and create a new one). The operative word is that a CO can move an existing geocache 528' / 161m. Consider whether you should keep the existing listing or archive it and publish a new geocache: How far did you move it? How different is the replacement container? (Are you replacing an ammo can with an ammo can, or with a bison tube?) Is the nature of the new hide similar to the original? (Are the difficulty and terrain ratings still the same?) Overall, how different is the experience now compared to the original cache? If the original hide was, say, an ammo can at the base of one tree and it's now an ammo can at the base of another tree 100' away, a simple coordinate update should suffice. Whereas if you originally hid a well camouflaged lock and lock under a bridge that's down a steep embankment, and now have an easily located bison tube in a guardrail 300 feet away on level ground, it's a totally different cache than the one that other cachers have experienced and probably deserves a new cache listing.
