gc.com font

Noto Sans? That's a Google-designed font (no tofu, long story), and it's my favourite font. I've side-loaded it into my eReader, and I'm a happy boy when it comes to devouring books. It's supremely readable - when it's black on white, at a font size and weight I can specify.

But give a good font to a web designer, and it's the designer's choice what to do with it...

Yes, Noto Sans, typo. I'm using Google Chrome as my browser and I've updated all fonts in the chrome settings to be arial, but I still have the issue. It does appear to only be an issue with Chrome, it looks fine in IE (but who wants to use IE???) But gc.com is the only website I seem to have this issue with, all others in Chrome are ok.

This happened again yesterday and I couldn't remember what I did to fix it last time, so is what worked:

  1. Load chrome://settings/ in the browser's address bar or select Menu > Settings.
  2. Click on "advanced" at the bottom of the page.
  3. Scroll down to the "system" section.
  4. Toggle "Use hardware acceleration when available" to off.
  5. Restart Google Chrome.
