Understanding New App's Cost

Recommended Posts

With the ending of the classic app's demise fast approaching I am considering what app to use as a replacement. I frankly am confused by the explanation on the Apple App Store and am hoping for a quick and clear answer here. The app is free, but has listed in app purchases which include both Subscriptions and 1-Year Membership. Both are $29.99. So what is the difference between those? I have the premium annual membership - is that the same as the in app purchase 1-Year Membership? Now, to use all the features do you then in addition to the membership ALSO have to purchase a subscription? And is that subscription also an annual - meaning $29.99 X 2 to be able to use the app with all features?

The annual premium membership is exactly the same as the in-app membership, so if you are a premium member on the website, you are good to go and can use the app with all features.

I guess that I'm still not understanding then what the difference is between the membership and the subscription? Do you need a separate subscription as well, or is this a mistake in the Apple Store listing?

The In-app purchases listed on the App store include the old non-renewing premium membership purchase options. These are what you see as "3-Month Membership" and "1-Year Membership". They aren't actually available in the current version of the app, but we keep them around for anyone who still has an old version.

The 2 called "Subscription" are just the current auto-renewing premium membership options(1 month and 1 year). Within the app it is much more clear, but we have less control over what shows up in the app store listing. However, I agree that the terminology is confusing and I'll see if we can change it to something less vague. Unfortunately, per Apple, we can't actually put the duration in the names, but we could probably change it to something like "Premium Membership" rather than "Subscriptions".

Thanks, that is very helpful!
