Washington Geocachers Club

Hi all,

There has been a lot of interest in forming a club here in WA, particularly for advocacy. Many of us are interested in having a meeting soon.

Team Misguided is willing to have a meeting at their house next Saturday evening or Sunday. They are in Auburn.

Another option would be to have it in Kirkland. Please vote and post agenda items or other thoughts:

Here are some thoughts about meeting topics, in order that they might be tackled:

Determine the purpose/goals of the club.

Devise a position statement regarding geocaches in State Parks.

Determine what roles of leadership are needed.

Appoint people to those roles.

Develop a quarter or half year plan.

I base these on what seem to be our most immediate needs. Feel free to comment!

All that sounds like a good plan to me. I voted for Kirkland simply because it's close to my home. But I will come regardless of where we meet. If we don't get it together, and soon, it's going to be bad news for geocaching. Where the state parks lead, the county and municipal parks are sure to follow.

I chose Kirkland Saturday, though Sunday is fine as well (for either location).

I'd also like to attend so I can get an idea about what local organizations need in the way of features on the site to help facilitate their meetings/events/etc.

I would love to attend but have a rodeo in Cashmere that I need to be at next weekend. Please keep us posted on anything those of us that cannot attend might be able to help with. Also, as I am over 60 miles away, something that we can do from this area would be great. Thanks.

As I mentioned in our WAGeocaching list, I think Renton would be a place most convenient for all--the eastsiders can get there by coming down 405, the Seattleites can come down I-5, and the southerners can get there from either I-5 or 167.

Saturday would be preferable to Sunday.

Sat. evening or Sunday - north or south doesn't make much difference to me!

Might want to add organizational info, like bylaws, etc., to the agenda. We'll need to convince the powers-that-be that we represent the majority of GeoCachers in Washington state. Having a solid organizational structure in place will help.

Since I cant join in this club (too far away from Oregon), could there be a formal response to this "FWadmin" who is removing caches from FW parks.

Invite them, or inform them of your intent maybe? I am getting a little worried about my "Points" cache. I would contact him myself, but I wanted to know what the general consensus is before I go dialing the phone.

Jeremy,

I have never hidden a cache so I don't know the approval process. Would it be hard to add a field or check box to the new cache request form that asks for a "park name"/"gov agency" and then forward the request to the appropriate park person for approval?

Oh, John, that is NOT a place we want to go!

{{{shudder}}}

Let's just pretend that was not even suggested. First of all, it would be nearly impossible to make that an automated event on the cache submission page. But mostly it's just asking for trouble. Whatever we do, we need to keep it simple and have as little input from parks personnel as possible. Just enough to make them feel like it's not entirely beyond their control.
