+elkmilk
I’ve been trying to enter a new cache that a friend of mine hid down in Mexico for but I keep getting an error on the cords on the geocaching web page. I use a different type of gps then he used so I’m not sure whats wrong. I do know that its a different format. Here is the details he gave me: N 20.91965 W 100.73118 He used a Garmin GPS 12 He also gave me a UTM of 14Q 0319960 UTM 2314090 I have no idea what these cords mean. On my Magellan 315 my cords are read just like yours on the cache pages. For example: My other cache here at home from my Magellan reads N 46 44.106 W 120 36.406. Could somebody give me some advice or translate the cords. Thanks Elkmilk Quote Link to comment
+Bodoni
You can use one of the many on-line coordinate translation tools, or the one linked to from the Geocaching site. The problem is that you need to convert degree decimal into minute decimal. Here's the result, and the coordinates you need to be able to post it: N 20°55.178999 W 100°43.8708 I sure hope I got that right (or somebody will let me know, I'm so sure). I don't remember how many decimals the site will take, so you might need to round the decimals up to something like 55.179, etc. Good luck! Quote Link to comment
+IFR GPS
The coordinates in question are called UTM coordinates, and are based on a different grid system than what lat/long is based on. Your GPS should accept both types of coordinates, depending on what coordinate system you have selected in the navigation setup pages of your GPS. Many GPS units will toggle back and forth between the two types of coordinates once you have entered the initial coordinates in one format or the other.
